YouTube today introduced a new content filter that helps users screen out offensive content, such as news videos with graphic violence, or sexually suggestive clips that don't exceed the service's Community Guidelines. The optional filter, named Safety Mode, also hides all text comments by default.

Google's YouTube has long banned family-unfriendly content, including pornography and videos that show gratuitous violence, animal abuse, underage drinking, and the like.
Google is trying to patent "a method of providing an interactive game based on a digital video" using services like YouTube or Google Video. A patent application filed in February and released to the public this week reveals Google's attempt to build games on top of digital videos using an interactive annotation system.
Recently, Google has been in talks with Hollywood studios in California to leverage YouTube’s massive web-based video platform into a world of allowing fresh movie and film releases to be streamed over the internet.
According to several sources, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Lions Group Entertainment are both considering the possibility of establishing a streaming online movie rental service through YouTube. While the discussions have been realized at a very preliminary level, the service would essentially counter the likes of Amazon’s Video On Demand rentals, Apple’s iTunes movie rental service, and even Sony’s PlayStation Network movie rentals.
