Don't bring your tablet to work!

"Smart devices mean you work longer hours. While many employees are leaning on companies to allow them to bring their own devices to work and let them run on a network, there are some damn fine reasons why they shouldn't. Companies are resisting letting employees plug their gear in, citing security problems, however those who have managed to squeeze a pound of flesh from those employees dumb enough to agree. According to the quarterly Mobile Workforce Report employees are working up to 20 additional hours per week unpaid as a result of bring your own device policies adopted by their firms.

42 percent of US consumers want Windows tablets

"We came across an interesting survey from Boston Consulting Group who came across some interesting data. They did a survey asking people in China and USA what operating system one would prefer on its tablet. The results could be described as shocking, since 44 percent of consumers in Chine want Windows on their tablets, while in US some 42 want the same. Apple’s iOS, the ultra-popular and most prolific operating system for tablets is preferred by 34 percent of Chinese customers while in the Apple loving US this number surprisingly drops to 27 percent.

Anandtech reviews the Asus Eee Tab with keyboard dock

At a very high level, the Eee Pad is yet another Honeycomb tablet. It's got an NVIDIA Tegra 2 SoC, 1GB of LPDDR2 memory, a WiFi radio, and 16GB of NAND on-board. Delve a little deeper and the story quickly becomes more interesting. We'll start at the price: $399 for 16GB WiFi. That's $100 cheaper than the equivalent iPad, and $200 cheaper than the lowest priced Xoom.

Is tablet fad killing PC sales?

"Acer has warned that its PC sales in the first quarter are short of expectations. The FT claims that this is highlighting the continued shift of consumer preferences in Europe and US from notebooks towards tablet devices. But Acer never said that. It did say that PC revenues were 10 per cent less than in the fourth quarter of last year, during which Acer suffered an 11 per cent year-on-year fall in revenues. Jenny Lai, head of Taiwan research at HSBC said that it shows that tablets’ cannibalisation of the notebook and netbook markets is definitely happening.
