UPDATE: Sony has issued a response to the claims, and offered advice to those looking to upgrade their HDD after downloading the new Firmware.
The latest PlayStation 3 Firmware upgrade is reportedly causing issues for users attempting to upgrade their hard drive.
PS3 users have informed CVG that they are also having difficulty updating their system to Firmware 3.41, and even experiencing system crashes.
The few that have managed to install a new HDD are greeted with an error stating that 'no applicable data' can be found.
Begging trouble, Strategy Analytics forecasts Sony's PlayStation 3 will outsell both the Xbox 360 and Wii by the time things are winding down for all three. That's not all: In a report titled "Taming the Waves: Games Console Life Cycles and Platform Competition," the company offers specific figures, predicting everything from transitional timeframes to life unit sales.
Sony is announcing today that it will launch an original reality TV series on its PlayStation Network for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable game devices.
The show is an eight-episode series called The Tester and it is about a bunch of gamers who compete to get a job as a game tester at Sony’s U.S. game division in San Diego, as well as a $5,000 signing bonus. It’s part of Sony’s push to create “original digital” content to make its games consoles more broadly appealing.
The series will air on the PlayStation Network from Feb. 18 to April 8.
A mid-year price cut and a strong lineup of software titles gave Sony's PlayStation 3 a record holiday season, the company said Wednesday. Sales of the console in the last five weeks of the year totaled 3.8 million units worldwide, a 76 percent jump on 2008.
"Last holiday season was the most successful holiday season in the history of PlayStation 3," said Kaz Hirai, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, during a news conference at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
