COD:MW2 Map Pack to contain 5

Two classic maps will make a return

More information about the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Map Pack is coming into us from a variety of sources, but it does confirm that the new Map Pack (which is being called “Stimulus Package”) will contain five new maps; and two of them are classics from the first Modern Warfare release.

COD:MW2 has another claim to fame

The most pirated game of 2009. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has certainly won its share of awards and accolades since release. However, one distinction that isn’t going to make Activision or developer Infinity Ward happy is the news that it was the most pirated game of 2009, and it only took two months to achieve this distinction.

According to reports from various BitTorrent information sources, COD:MW2 has racked up over 4.1+ million illegal downloads for the PC version. The problem continues because of its popularity, and there are just too many seeders to stamp it out.

Weekend Game Hunting: Mute button edition

Want to know my favorite weapon for just about any online multiplayer game? The mute button.

In fact, it has become my best friend while playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. I've heard piercing sound effects, heavy swearing that would make a sailor blush and one player who insisted on singing Lady Gaga tunes.

On the one hand, it disrupts communication and planning with random squadmates in a team setting. But I'll accept the sacrifice if it means saving my ears from out-of-tune renditions of "Paparazzi."

Call of Duty: World at War PC v1.7 Patch Released

A new update for Call of Duty: World at War PC is now available on FileShack, bringing Treyarch's World War II shooter up to v1.7 through a 16.48MB download. To receive the handful of multiplayer fixes contained in the patch, players must have already installed the v1.6 patch. The v1.7 dedicated server package is also available, as is a German version of the update. The changelog follows:

Modern Warfare 2 Generates over $600 Million in Revenue

VGChartz can exclusively reveal that according to our preliminary data, Modern Warfare 2 sold around 9.4 million copies in week one (5 days on sale) worldwide. This equates to over $600 million in revenue, beating the previous record holder Grand Theft Auto IV which sold 5.9 million units in the same timeframe last year and generated around $450 million in revenue (at a higher average selling price).

Modern Warfare 2 Adopts Steamworks on PC

Activision and Valve today announced that they've hammered out an agreement to get Valve's Steamworks suite of tools onto the PC version of Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2.

"All PC versions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be powered by Steamworks, providing gamers with auto-updating, anti-cheat technology, Steam Achievements, and the recently introduced Steam Cloud," reads the release.

CoD: MW2 PC "Dedicated Servers Out."

Petition to infinity ward:

** Official Petition ** Dedi Servers and Mod Tools for PC

After a lengthy webcast on BASHandSlash Infinity Ward's community manager, Robert Bowling, confirmed that dedicated servers for the PC community will be dropped in favour of IWNet, a matchmaking service provided by Infinity Ward. The announcement was met with disappointment as BASHandSLASH (via Kotaku) moderators told Bowling that the current PC communities are "structured in such a way that it relied on having dedicated servers," meaning there is no interest in changing the way matchmaking works and that the community are happy with its current set up.
