AMD shipped over 6 million DX11 GPUs

In less than two quarters

AMD announced that it has managed to ship in excess of 6 million DirectX 11 capable GPUs in the past two quarters.

The company introduced the HD 5800 series in late September and the cards started shipping in volume in early October. A month later AMD launched the HD 5700 series, which was followed by entry level parts and mobile GPUs.

Next ATi graphic cards 2nd half of the year

According to Donanimhaber.com, AMD is working on 2nd generation DX11 line-up and it will be based on completly new GPU architecture. Donanim Haber also underlines that, next-gen cards will be launched in 2nd half of this year as Dirk Meyer (AMD' CEO) said before. Still there is no official infos about the technical details of new architecture but some people speculates that new design supports MIMD desing approach.

AMD Supports OpenGL 4.0

Very recently, The Khronos™ Group announced the availability of OpenGL® 3.3 and OpenGL® 4.0, the latest and greatest iterations in what is the world’s most pervasive open standard graphics API.  Working for the graphics side of the AMD family, I continue to be asked if these new versions of OpenGL are supported by AMD graphics products and the short answer is yes.  Now it is time to go a little deeper.
