AMD Radeon HD 6850 & HD 6870 Launch Review

"A new launch is always an exciting prospect and I can’t wait to get these cards into our test system and see exactly what AMD has delivered. We will be testing both the AMD HD 6850 and HD 6870 in this review, as well as an overclocked version of the HD 6870 from Diamond. Also, since we had some extra time between the cards arrival and the launch, we will even include CrossFire numbers with the HD 6870 and HD 6850 running together." | more

Radeon 6870 scores 7500 in 3Dmark Vantage

"We will share the 3Dmark Vantage score of the Radeon HD 6870 and the magical number is 7500 at extreme quality, give or take a few points. This is the score on a 3.2GHz clocked Core i7 965 XE. We have also learned that with high quality textures the card scores close to 7400, while with adaptive quality settings you score a bit higher than 7500. The same card on high scores 11000 while at performance settings you can get 16500. With a six-core CPU you can probably score a few more points but we doubt that people with six core Intel CPUs will go for mainstream ATI card.

Radeon HD 6870 goes full monty

"The card uses 4-phase VRM and comes with eight memory chips placed on the front of the PCB. According to the info so far, the new Barts GPU is pin compatible with Cypress so some AIB's might even go for that option, and we might see cards that look a lot like the HD 5870, PCB wise. The GPU itself is placed diagonally, something that we've seen on Cypress, and this time AMD made sure that its logo is is the one on the GPU. The card needs two 6-pin PCI-Express power connectors and features two DVI, one HDMI and two mini DisplayPort outputs.

Radeon HD 6870 and 6850 launch Oct 22nd

"The two cards launching on Friday are the Radeon HD 6870, with 1GB GDDR5 as well as HDMI,DVI-I, DVI-D and Dual mini DisplayPort outputs, and the Radeon HD 6850, also with 1GB GDDR5, DVI-I and DVI-D, HDMI and DisplayPort. The cards will start shipping to shops by the end of this week or early next week. You should be able to buy them in e-tail / retail shortly after launch." | more

AMD Radeon HD 6870 and 6850 launches on October 18th

"Back in August we could confirm that AMD would stir things up by naming the mid-range series Radeon HD 6800. The GPU "Barts" is the successor to Juniper GPU of the Radeon HD 5700 series, but it is being moved up a notch. The list of specifications that was leaked at several sites last week said that Barts would launch as Radeon HD 6700, which made us wonder about the authenticity of the document. We have had it confirmed that our previous information on Barts and Radeon HD 6800 were correct, which we can now back up with detailed specifications and launch dates."
