Western Digital Scorpio Black 500GB 2.5" Hard Drive is a SATA II 2.5" HDD, but it has some impressive specs. It's 7,200 RPM, 16MB buffer size, very quiet, 500GB and very affordable. Also, when this drive is setup in a RAID 0 arrary it's blistering fast. Dollar for dollar, this drive is rockin'.
The purpose of this review is what?
You spend 3 Mins reading the spec sheet and telling me that it has screw holes for mounting.
There are more "Should be" and "may be" than a politicians speech.
If you are going to review... Get off the fence and provide some critical detail.
I'm just waiting for SSDs to get cheaper.
Thats pretty nice, but I would rather get an SSD. I know they are expensive, but if you get a low capacity one (32-64GB) it isnt too bad.
I put a 32GB Runcore mini PCI-e SSD in my Eee PC and it very good. It has an average read speed of about 118MB/s (using HD Tune)
True, but capacity is an issue then.
Plays and looks fine to me.
Anyone having issues playing/seeing the video review at the top of this page?
This has since been resolved :)
Do these drives come with that Advanced Format?
Hey rodney have you heard about the new seagate momentus xt? it's fast, it has a good capacity and it's very affordable.
Yes, but Seagate is not a sponsor ATM.
Why are you so pink in the Video?
Has to do with white balance and it's hard to get it perfect with a white backdrop. Also, Sony camcorders tend for favor reds :/
You should go back to sitting at your desk. A white backdrop isnt really needed in my opinion.
So this is the 2.5' version of the WD Velociraptor , fast and small.
I might not even be suprised by the price...
Rodney , love how you give more detail on the anti-static bag and where to tear it...
xD
the wd velociraptor is a 2.5 inch drive, just unscrew the adapter and stick it in ur laptop!
No. The velociraptor takes 12v power, not just 5v power that laptop drives take. Also, it is thicker than standard laptop drives. Get an SSD and call it a day if you want speed.
This HDD is a beast, when comparing to other 2,5" HDDs. I've replaced the one in my notebook, with one of these, and I can tell the difference for sure. Only downside is that I lost about 20-30 battery lifetime, but that is to be expected, I guess.
Yea, the blue series is really meant for saving power, blacks are for performance.
well the best hard drives at the moment are samsung spinpoint f3 they beat wd blacks a wd 10.ooorpm drives. i have the f3 500gb for storage. i will be eager to see the results of this drive...
Sorry folks, there is something wrong with the video review and other info on this page. It should be fixed soon.
you da man rodney will be sippin coffie til its up...
It's all back... :)
How much money is it?
whats special about this hard drive? Is it just a HDD but smaller?
Well, it's a SATA 2.5" HDD, but with some impressive specs, including 7,200 RPM, 16MB buffer size and has a capacity of 500GB.
I should also mention that I'll have RAID0 results in the upcoming video review :)
The Unboxing video will be released later this after afternoon and the review later this evening.
