The A.C. Ryan PlayOn!HD Mini Media Player might be the little brother, but that doesn't mean it's not up to the task. This media player is small, but it is loaded with excellent features. It supports most audio and video formats, including MKV files. Playing movies at 1080p is a snap and remember this player can be connected into the LAN or Internet. If you're in the market for a tiny, but very capable media player, this is probably it!
what a great product this is.
i just have mine for the better part of 2 months now.
your review (and others) on it,greatly contributed on my decision to purchase this device.
i'm having great fun with it.
it gobbles up everything i feed it.
my burning days are over :)
I already have an USB Network. Can I use that in this media player instead of the AC Ryan Wifi d o n gle?
Can I use my NTFS External USB harddrive in the media player?
don't now about the usb network, but an external ntfs formatted hdd is no problem.
i do it all the time.
I've seen Rodney review several media playrers/ media player cases...
I still have no clue on Earth what these are for.
I have a DVD/VCR, a BlueRay player, a HD/DVR cable tuner, and my TV can select between all of these with no trouble. I like techie stuff, and really I don't get what the hell these media players are supposed to do that can't already be done.
AC Ryan has released new official firmware for both the Playon!HD and Playon!HD Mini today! This is based on the latest Realtek SDK (v3.x). Their engineers have been working tirelessly to keep the Playon!HD series at the front of the pack.

So, what are the many benefits of the latest firmware release?
- New main menu GUI (Graphical User Interface)
- Improved new loading animation
- Improved new SHOUTcast API2.0 (Internet Radio)
- Added function to display rich content movie cover art image and plays the video instantly
- Added Movie Jukebox function (YAMJ - Yet Another Movie Jukebox)
- Added support for HFS+ file system
- Dolby TrueHD downmix and Passthrough (Licensed for C+ board)
- Dolby Digital Plus downmix (Licensed for C+ board)
- Added loading of screen saver at home menu level
- Added HTTP and FTP server function
- BT/SAMBA are now individual selections
Seriously you need to start actually reviewing these media players instead of giving us a massive tutorial video. No one cares about the basics.. They know what it can do.. Tell us what it does over other players.. and tell us if it can handle media properly.. or subtitles.. Compare the different chipsets. Tell us if it doesn't do something properly. etc etc
Hi 3dGameMan!
In your POHDMINI Video here, it shows a Bittorrent shortcut in the Menu selection. I bought mine brand new yesterday but there's no Bittorrent feature.
Why is this?

Thats pretty good for a little media player
Thanks for posting this, Rodney. If there are any other questions, I can be found to answer some questions. :D
Again, thanks for taking the time answer questions. It's very appreacited.
A few of you are wondering about the wireless adapter. AC Ryan is using the Realtek RTL8191SU Wireless LAN 802.11n USB 2.0 Network Adapter.

Rodney, you mention the Movie Jukebox menu item, but didn't show it in detail. Do you have to do anything special to get the movie thumbnails to work? On my TVIX 5000, I have DVD ISO files and related JPG files for jukebox mode. Thanks.
Hey MTN Ranger,
Yes, you will need the YAMJ firmware installed. More info here: http://www.acryan.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=4273
Oops, I forgot to login. That was my question.

Is there anything it can't do?
Rodney,
Is it possible to use a powered usb hub with this device in order to use more than two usb drives at a time?
Does this product have gigabit Ethernet ?
I'm afraid not. I actually mentioned this in the video review, you must have missed it.
Take a min. to register, so we know who we are addressing: http://www.3dgameman.com/user/register
ahhh.. be great if the Australian distributor would import these! Only currently doing the PlayON!HD
Very good products AC Ryan are bringing out at the moment.
edit: We have sold many of the PlayON!HD over the past 6 months with 0 return rate... touch wood. We have sold many other media players in the paste that had a high return rate.
Hey 3dGameMan,
Was that real-time footage when you showed the Iron Man 2 trailer? That was incredibly fast.
I really like this player seems in expensive and from the little clip i have seen the network delay is minimal. What are your takes on the player as far as long pauses in video Rodney?
I use MythTV in Linux as a backend for my server and MythTV as a frontend for my HTPC and there is very minimal delay when watching widescreen HD programming, so you'll probably not experience any delays with this media player; that is, if you have streaming media as your first priority.
Oh man. I hate blue LEDs. They're so obnoxious. Incredibly bright.
Really wish stuff would stop using LEDS. Or if they must use red ones. Blue/Green ones make it incredibly hard to sleep. I have to put little bits of electrical tape on everything to get sleep.
I like blue LEDs, just not bright ones ;)
For anyone looking for this review in 720p, dated 3/26/10.
Update: I hope to release the video review later this evening.
"BUT!"
lol xD
What is this?
Pretty sure it's all outputs...
Can i use this to record video games?
I'm afraid that this is not an input device. You might be thinking about their other PlayOn!DVR HD product: http://www.playondvr.com
Unboxing video will be posted later today and the video review should be up tomorrow.
