please forgive if i accidentally double post.

How does this box handle subtitles? (I.E. when I'm watching an anime with subs on my wd tv live, the wd tv live displays the subs in its own "wd tv live" format/font, but when I watch the anime file on my pc the sub group's intended font/format is displayed).

Wikipedia defines DRM as "Digital rights management, controversial technologies which provide access control for digital media"

As for the scraping, with our YAMJ feature this is a possibility as it gets its information from IMDB.

I'm looking for a worthy sucessor to my xbmc on the xbox. I'm really liking the Playon HD, but I'm curious if anyone can confirm if it allows for IMDB, etc scraping of movies? even as an additional plugin or hack. The one thing that's kept me with the lowly 720 xbox. I really want 1080 to go with my new LCD :D

Still waiting for my username, or I'll just re-register in a second.

Just answering some questions that might have arrived. Yes AVCHD is supported by the POHD, one can also jump to a specific starting letter, should one have all the music in one single file. Standard search function, for say internet radio, comes with an on-screen keyboard.

I have a good question. Can A.C. Ryan PlayOn!HD Media Player play Blu Ray disc to watch a movie?

Yes, as long as the external bluray disk doesn’t have DRM.

[BETA] firmware version r3643 + YAMJ 6th Released: http://www.acryan.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=5403

This felt more like a Tutorial video then an actual review. Everything explained in this video is already detailed on there webpage in the specs. You didn't cover any of the key questions. Like how does it handle subtitles in MKV or external subs.. It's PQ vs Sigma boxes.. Does it support DVD Menu.. etc etc. Also 1gig lan isn't needed for AVC 4.1.

why buy this product when you can spend a little bit more and buy a acer revo 230 pc? that way you still get your HD videos on big screen through the hdmi port plus you get all the fuctionality of a computer to surft the web check email what have ya, and its even powerfull enough to play games on for around £40 more...

Very true, the Acer Revo 230 Mini PC looks great, but can it play 1080p MKV movies with ease?

It's certainly worth looking into and is an option for anyone who wants an affordable PC HTPC setup, but it's hard to beat the easy setup and functionality of a stand alone media player.

Anonymous

well all the reviews on good old google says it can play 1080p mkv files along with the HD audio, and along with the comments from purchasers, but smoothly... i duno havin not actually witnessed one playing yet but think it will be the road i take, however with 3D tv just around the corner i might just hold off

y have a question , can y use a wifi dongle in the usb port and use my SAS harddrives?

Well, they have a Wireless-N 300mbps adapter they recommend and I'm not sure if other USB wireless adapters work. For their adapter, check here: http://www.playonhd.com/en/#buynow

I have no experience installing a SAS drive in this player. A standard 1TB or 2TB HDD SATA HDD would be the best option for this type of device.

can someone please explain to me what the benefits of this one are over the cheaper o!play model ???

i did like watching the videos on youtube for one reason, that this channel and other channels all fall under 1 category and i can see what vidoes are new in order, but these are brilliant video reviews and il more than gladly come onto this website i knew nothing about untill 5 minutes ago so no big deal really, but yeh youtube does have a major flaw with stupid little immature kids messing about on it unfortunalty.

kepp up the good work Rodney :) ... small suggestion tho, any chance of a few "how to videos" and reviews of monitors, printers, mice etc as well ???

I think most of your you tube subscribers would prefer to watch you on you tube.If it means waiting for them then so be it.

If anyone else feels so confined to only watch his videos on Youtube then that's their prerogative to wait and still not be able to chat about the hardware, so you know, whatever people want to do is their business, like you said they will wait.

So 3D Game man, you should start doing some product reviews on monitors*!

I'm still gonna stay subscribed, I like keeping up with the PC world even though I am a MAC guy. :)

*I say monitors, because I am in the market for one! (To hook up to my mac of course)

Awesome video. I'm using the Xbox 360 with Windows Media Center. I'm thinking of using this to replace that setup. It sucks that it doesn't have a gigabit port, but considering the fact that I got switches throughout my house and I don't mind buffering times anyways, it's a great improvement for me. I'm getting sick of having to convert my DVDs and MKVs to WMVs so they are compatible. I just need to find a place that ships to Canada.

Thanks. You mean you are having issues finding the AC Ryan in Canada?

Anonymous

Well, on the AC Ryan website, they don't list any resellers in their "Where to Buy" page. Although, I could preorder, but I'd feel better ordering from a reputable place that ships to Canada (e.g. Newegg).

IMHO Youtube does not do enough to provide a family friendly environment. Rod spends more time each day just blocking jerks. We only need Youtube for the streams and it's pulling traffic away from our nice new server and website that is currently under construction. There could also be other reasons Rodney will make Youtube become second. Some things off the top of my head is that Youtube streams are kind of slow for me and the HD quality is lacking.

Where are you located? At work we use Amnet (Western Australia, Australia) and the youtube HD streams work fine? May depend on your provider.

Comments from people are hard to manage. Guess be good if YT had a feature where the video poster could have some friends as 'comment moderators'.

Yes, if you could add folks with moderator privileges, that would definitely help. But with so many videos I would need a team of hundreds.

That's your decision, but comments will not be enabled at this time. Fact is, most of the comments on YouTube are well.. you know :/

Hi Rodney, In one of your videos about the AC Ryan you made comment about the HDMI cable. The HDMI cable is included in the Australian version. At this time we are only stocking the Playon HD player (and the wireles dongle) , thats the importer is bringing in. I have their earlier Playon DVR (analog+digital tvtuner, its different to their newer DVR) AND I found that to be fairly good. They also have great support, from my experience. We have sold other media players, but I have only found that the Mediagate MG35/350HD/45/450HD (no longer exist now) were excellent for their time and now.. AC Ryan Playon.

I'm not familiar with the Markus 800 media player, but the PlayOn!HD plays just about any audio video files. I've been using it for ever a month and I'm very impressed.
