Frankly it is a waste of Canadian tax dollars and a malicious joke played on legitimate Canadian businesses.
There is already rules in place regarding spam -- i.e. all commercial electronic messages must provide an 'unsubscribe' link to allow you to opt out of their mailing lists.
Show me a single spammer that does that and actually honors it
Hint: If there is an unsubscribe link, clicking it will actually tell the spammer they got a 'hit' and your address magically gets sold to just about every spammer out there.
Spammers don't give a flying fork about Canada's (or anyone else's) Anti Spam legislation. They are already breaking a dozen internet laws just by doing these mass mailings. They don't care that Canada's gooberment (or you) don't like their emails. They already know anyone with decent anti spam setups will be filtering out their trash. Will this even slow them down? Hell no!
It is like gun control legislation. Doe the gangbanger with the pistol shoved down the back of his pants care about gun controls? Why should he. He is carrying that gun as a tool to COMMIT CRIMES! Does it even make them think twice about carrying it? All the legislation does is make it a royal pan in the backside for those who care about these laws to legitimately purchase or own a gun.
Same thing with this anti spam legislation. REAL spammers will ignore it, yet folks with legitimate businesses and reasons to send commercial electronic messages will have to jump thru flaming hoops to stay in touch with their customers.
Thank freaking GOD it is only CANADIAN businesses that have to deal with this.
Who is seriously going to monitor this?
Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL)?
