I'm pretty sure the first text message was sent by Samuel Morse: "What has god wrought?" We can quibble over the fact that he didn't use a cell phone, but he gets the credit IMO.

lol not older than me :D

Texting evolved from alphanumeric pagers when you could dial a central paging number and leave a message that is displayed on a remote pager. SMS messaging came along much later on.

Today pagers have all been pretty much replaced modern SMS messaging.
