I have ALWAYS watched your Youtube vids if i was gonna buy something.

And you're really good at it!

I hope you earn enough money to keep everything as it is know.

I fully respect that this is your main or one of your main ways of making a living so I have a suggestion. You should look into becoming a YouTube partner which would allow you to make ad revenue off of YouTube as well as this site.

Fact is, YouTube is simply the most popular video hosting website on the internet. Either way I love your videos, keep it up!

Anonymous

Rodney I think you should at the very least enable comments on your youtube videos, and also are more people visiting your website? doesn't seem like it considering that the forums aren't very active at all, not to mention the topics you've added aren't that great..

No offense Rodney, but your videos and YT channel have been really crappy lately. You are trying to push people to your site, but not many are gonna budge, and continuously showing off your site on your channel is just annoying poeple from what I can see. I would go back to uploading regularly, and enabling comments on your videos If I were you.

If his videos have been crappy, then why are you hear asking him to enable comments? lol

Exactly, if he thinks the content of the videos have been crappy, how would enabling comments on another site make it better..

Anonymous

As to the first comment on ad revenue, well.. sure? This is his job is it not? I don't really see the big deal about it. Perhaps he might be going about things in the wrong way (I think a healthy more free form YouTube channel will promote him and subsequently his site more) it's nothing surprising or unfair.

Anonymous

No offense, but to me it seems like the only reason you have users come to your site is so you can acquire more ad revenue. I for one, was a big fan of your previous doings, but seeing as now you seem to be pretty hell-bent on squeezing as much cash as possible out of your community, I don't want to be a part of it.

You are a great reviewer, but I think you need to re-think your reasoning behind abandoning your Youtube followers just so you can capitalize.

except he's not abandoning them..? it's just going to take longer, so what's the difference to you?
..well, to be honest, I don't think it would even take longer, if he sticks to a schedule, each video would still be coming out at the same pace as before, just showing different upload dates from when you watch it.

... This is very good site and provide very good information. I really want to visit this site again.

This new site layout is much better than the old one, really relaxing and much more simple. I like it. Since today I was visiting youtube to see your videos, now I have to visit your website, no big deal, I do this for lot of different websites its not a problem. Although I have to admit that I want the reviews to be a little more accurate and not just showing us the product but also let us know your exact opinion on it. If it has some faults or disadvantages point them out, without caring about the company and the deal you have with them. That's just my opinion.

Anonymous

Have you considered partnering or working with Newegg TV ? They have lot's of products and you have lot's of experience, and they're looking for help. Even better get Canada Computers or TigerDirect to get you products to review. For instance right now for Canada Comp there are litterally no reviews whatsoever. I wish there was a video review for every single product..good ..bad..

Anyways love your reviews and hope this helps

I've actually had offers from large retail computer stores to do videos, I've declined all offers to date. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't consider it, it's just means that the right offer hasn't come along yet.

Hey Rod
Nice to hear what plans you have for the future for 3dgamerman.com - And the info on your UTube channal as well.
I perfer 3dgamerman.com over UTube, because of all the extra info, the site offers, mainly other peoples comments and the adds (wich I find a bit anoing on other sites, but it kinda belong on a site like this)
I personal value your reviews, because it has intregrity, and you dont favor a brand.

I would love to se you crank it up a bit, and make the site even more pro (so to speak) after all its a buisness.

You are allso spreading your wings and reviewing a wider range of products, wich is nice - Love the new 5.1 Headset review.

As i mentioned in an earlyer post, I would love to se more in depth videos of rigbuilding, network setup and maybe a little software introduktion - After all a computer is much more than a gamingrig - Webdesign / video / picture editing ... Computer security and so on.
I know you are a famely person, wich is great - But still it would be great to see a 3dgamerman.com evoulution to something bigger than it is today (no disrespect, site/reviews are great)
- And I would pay for access to special content on your site, as a monthly fee.

Rod you ar still going strong and creating new ideas.

Kind Regards

Thanks for the video, I prefer 3DGM.com so there's not much change for me (actually it's my home adress in Firefox and Opera :)).

This isn't such a big deal, the "archive" of all his videos will remain on YouTube as they will be re-listed in two weeks, it doesn't hurt to visit the website. You people don't understand that he doesn't get paid for what he does, and YouTube's partnership program gives you only half the ad revenue, to make real money that you can live on, you need over half a million subscribers and viewers.

As you mentioned, the revenue from YouTube is very low, useless you have hundreds of thousands of subscribers. And with the economy the way it is, advertisers are not paying as much for ads. So while people think I have lots of subscribers, I really don't when you think this way about it.

Thankfully I don't sweat the rumors, death threats and other horrid comments directed at me, if I did I would have given this up long ago. Although, the positive comments outweigh the negative, which tells me I'm doing something right. I've grown a very thick skin over the years though, but I'm still kind and honorable on the inside ;) I mean all I'm doing it producing video reviews and other videos that I hope help people. I really have no idea why there are a few that get so upset over stuff. So I'm going to continue what I doing for now and see how it goes.

I guess cause those few people don't want the public to be informed about the product that they're buying and just want the public to SPEND!,SPEND!,SPEND! even if those products are bad, or not. Or maybe it hurt's some people, cause people are doing their homework before they buy something and it hurt's the companies that make shoddy products.

I agree with an above poster, I don't really like the idea of having to check this site every few days for another review, it's "Inconvenient" a simple "Teaser" video with a link to said video would be a simple way to combat this.

I also beileve this is not only a push for your videos to be more professional its a push for more ad revenue which is always a good thing, it will help 3DGAMEMAN expand and become an even more professional straight to the point PC hardware review site.

Chances are Rodney will do as he wishes and not really take into consideration what his community is saying as he seemed pretty stern on his decision in above video.

My only problem is that the new video service you're using doesn't appear to be iphone compatible. This is a huge hinderance for me, and possibly others who enjoy your reviews.

Can anything be done about this?

I'm sure there are at least a few "fixes" for that. One way is you could buy the Skyfire app, it's another browser, but it lets you see flash videos by streaming it through their servers to the iphone/touch's quicktime player. I think it does a pretty good job.
So all you would do is go to the page that has the youtube video on it in Skyfire, and at the bottom of the screen a thing will popup that lets you start the video.

Anonymous

It's just a traffic shift.... Dunno why anyone would go crazy.

Anonymous

I've been following your vids since the beginning, and I absolutely agree with all your points. Good stuff!

Anonymous

Can you please consider my idea. I think it would be a better idea if you just made a youtube video whenever you released a new review that forwards you to your website. it could be a preview of a video or you just you saying you released a video review of (whatever). You could have the link in ur video description that leads you to your website. I know you want people to be more active on your website and this would be an easy way for you to not lose subscribers on youtube because they would know whenever you made a new review on your website.

People it is easy to understand. The video reviews will be public on Youtube in a couple weeks from when they are posted on his web page. If you can't wait to watch them then come here. If you can wait, watch them on youtube. If they are public today, but uploaded 2 weeks ago how would you ever know they weren't public other than seeing the date when they were uploaded. Just don't look at that. And for those who want to post the first FIRST comment go to his web page and watch the video, but your comment will be deleted, so don't post a FIRST comment.
Is it that hard to figure out??? I'm sure you would do the same thing if you had your own web page. Direct traffic there, then keep them coming back. Not that hard to figure out is it? No, I didn't think so.
And no Mr Reynolds didn't loose his mind, he's Canadian :) Just kidding, but really he is Canadian.
And no I didn't unsubscribe. He's a great reviewer.

Fact is, it isn't that easy for people to understand. Most people think whatever they believe and go with it. The reason I'm doing this is to grow the site so I can continue doing what I love.

Rodney,

I have been a fan of 3dGameMan for years and visit at least 2 times a week. I don’t pay attention to blog chatter and rarely comment, save this time. You have a great thing here so please keep the video reviews coming.

This made things so clear. I think you're going about this the right way, 3dGameMan should be professional. To anyone who said your rants were unprofessional, they should remember that they were on the RodneyReynolds youtube channel. As a personal channel, it was in your right to put that stuff on there, outof the way of all the professional stuff.

I like these changes, Keep it up :)

I love your videos bro, but as a youtube subscriber, i feel (and i'm sure others) somewhat alienated... I realize you are focusing on your website and it's a very good website, but i can't just become a member of a website for every tech reviewer. it's a pain in the ass to make a special trip just to get access to regular features like real-time uploads (no 2-week delay), comments, and ratings. That goes for any youtuber. Motherboardsorg has a wonderful website as does jon4lakers (technobuffalo) and many others, but that doesn't make it any more convenient to go there. And they realize that and therefore allow their youtube fans to have fully featured access to their content without leaving youtube. That also helps wonders with video delivery because of how easy it is to subscribe to multiple channels and get their content updated to your inbox, all in one centralized location. I don't hold anything against you, and will continue to watch your videos on youtube (assuming you continue to post them there) as will many others, but i just wanted to air my side of things for your consideration.

Hey Rodney, I think what you're doing is a great business move and will generate more traffic to your website. From your video it sounds like you are going to put a 2 week delay on videos appearing on your website to appearing on youtube. So if we want the latest videos, we can find them at your website; or just wait 2 weeks until you put them on youtube. Am I understanding this right, or are there other reasons for the 2 week hiatus on youtube?

Well, time will see if that is the case, but I hope so, because I really don't want to get a "real job". LOL

I love your videos, and i get exited if you have new videos amoung others in my subscription page on youtube. But if you need to me to go to this site just to see if you got new videos is just to much hassle for me. Im lazy. Anyway, goodluck. Ill try to check your site once in a while or Ill just wait in two weeks on youtube.

Anonymous

I've said it 100 times and I'll say it 100 times more if i have to. Your website looks nice but it is far from complete and has been broken for 2 years.

Yes, I understand that and I just didn't have the money to spend 10K to get it back up fast. So I did the best I could considering what happened. I hope this is a thing of the past and we can go forward without to much turmoil.

I guess it's time to "change". It is what it is. I'm a fan of 3dgameman.com as well as the YouTube Channel for 5 years (2006) and I don't even care if he primarily focus more on his website. So, I am just sick and tired reading troll comments when new video reviews been uploaded into YouTube.com site.

Hey Rodney,

It's obvious that you're frustrated with all of the gossip going around. I'm not much of a review site follower, so I haven't heard anything nor have I ever seen anyone say anything, so I'm pretty much oblivious to what's going on other than what I'm hearing from you.

I've been following for quite some time now and am definitely not comfortable leaving YouTube, but I've ultimately decided to unsubscribe from your channels in order to bring myself over here. The community has been great since I started here, I've just had trouble sticking around.

I hope that everything gets sorted out okay and I'm looking forward to implementing myself into the community more and more.

Thanks for everything you do for us, and I wish the best for you and your site.

Am I wrong to assume that the only reason you are using YouTube is for free video hosting?

YouTube does host my stuff, yes, but remember, I'm only currently unlisting my video reviews for a couple of weeks. This could change though, if I don't see many people visiting the 3dGameMan site.

At this point I would definitely assume so. The ad revenue generated from YouTube and the partner program is probably very helpful as far as supporting hosting and the likes.
