I feel like DLC should be something done by the developer after the game has been released and they WANT to continue to implement more ideas. What I don't like is how they release games with stuff purposefully removed and plan to release 5 or 6 DLC packs later. That's a lot of missing content and too much extra money I wouldn't pay for it. For example, DICE/EA released Battlefield 3 and said pre-order now to get the first DLC pack free! It's like you're already telling me you want to sell me an incomplete game if I didn't preorder. Super crappy.
Valve knows how to treat their PC consumer base right. Continuous, free DLC.
Only on Borderlands 2. Season Pass was great addition and the playtime is more than enough for the 39 USD pricetag.
Love DLC, as long as it's not on disc content that are call DLC.
I don't like DLC like BF4 is doing now, they creating DLC at the same time as the game and will charge extra, if you don't want to preorder.
It's worst when a game is developed then just before the game is released they cut some of the content out, then sell it as day one DLC!
I naturally prefer free DLC... like CD Projekt Red <3 did with The Witcher 2 (also <3!)
But if its good and offers a decent amount of additional gameplay i don't mind that much to pay for it, i mean i understand games cost much more to make these days, so they need to find ways to make more money. But there are many publishers that abuse DLC to make an money for content taking out of games and selling it as DLC. This is not ok.
Also i hate it when you need to download DLC even when you do not own it, this is just stupid.
So overall...no i don't like it. But i do like the extra content... idk mixed feelings with it.
Back in my day, we used to be sold games as complete, and extra content were called mods. These days, games are sold as incomplete and they restrict or limit people from modding or creating content.
I'll only buy DLC if it's on sale such as Steam sales. I'll praise a company more if they release free DLC.
I don't mind DLC as long as it's worthwhile. And launch-day DLC....forget it. I liked the Mass Effect 2 DLC because it added to the story. And I hated the Batman Arkham City DLC because...well...it was costumes and "challenge" mode add-ons...
I'm a firm believer in getting what you pay for...and most DLC does not fall into that category.
It has to be FREE because you can not call 3 maps a DLC. True DLCs come only from Bethesda and they deserve every coin but everyone else, meh.
