Only if these games are targeted towards players/gamers, who are eighteen years of age or over!
I will go with Other* options.Sex should not be forced into game, but it should be there to enhance the story involvement without making a fuzz (for example games like Dragon Age Origin,Mass Effect etc) which should be strongly followed by parental lock.
A good game does not need sex to sell it. Work on the game play would be my advise to the game manufacturers.
It really depends. I feel that explicit acts should carry a disclaimer and be available only to adults over the age of eighteen. Under that age I feel the degree of exposure to these graphic acts and characters should be limited and I will differ to much smarter people to decide how much and to what age group. I'm all for kids being allowed to have childhoods free of the added pressures of this content and would like to see it carried through all types of media !
My vote: Other
Sexual content of computer games should correspond to the overall game theme/conpect/plot etc. Option for sexual romance were included in Dragon Age Origins and Mass Effect, and this worked very well for the story value of your character (in my opinion, atleast). It gave these games a realism that is rarely seen in roleplaying games, being the hero considered. Because of this rarity, it took me by such surprise, that I weren't able to keep my genuine character concept (experimentation was required, rawr).
That said, I believe that most games could suffer an awkward moment of "Wait, what?" if there were a sudden appearance of sexual involvement. For it to be successful, it must "Go with the flow" of the game itself (no pun intended).
I'm not really against it, as that does fall under First Amendment rights. Is it necessary? That depends on what the developer is trying to accomplish with their game. One could also argue that explicit language is not necessary, but then again, many people interact in that way. If realism is what the developer is trying to achieve, that type of content may be fitting (think GTA).
I don't think so. I've thought about this for a while. I know where to go to get porn and I don't need it in my video games. Let's keep this pure from sex stuff! I know where to go if i want something to jack off and I don't want it when I'm trying to play a game.
Use it, don't abuse it... everyone has his or her own secret desires regarding sexual acts. The company already knows this. By taking advantage of those "wants" they can effectively sell their product. My question is, "Is there a limit to how far these sexual exchanges should go ex: teasing, foreplay, full on skin or down right dirty?" and "is it necessary?" (the question) Well this varies game to game. Personally I like the use of sex to develop the character(s) or story. Deep dark stories needs deep dark past, and if you happen to use sex as a source, sure why not (GoW)? GTA is treading that gray area but it fits the story, why? because it's reality to that universe, people rape, people kill. What I do not support is senseless sex. Otherwise I feel cheated for spending my time and money. Why waste precious memory? Instead make a better game! Don't just market your product with fillers. At the end of the day I'm not looking for a great sex scene(s), I'm looking to play a game. There is a time and place for everything.
I think, just like the movies, sex in video games is OK as long as it suits the game. What I mean by this is most video games are aimed at children. I don't want my 9 year old son watching Mario and Princess Peach in a 3-way with Toad. On the other hand, I don't let my children play games with high graphic violence and strong sexual content. It just isn't right for young children to be exposed to GTA and games like that.
So, like I said, it all depends on the game.
Mario and Mario Carts are a LOT of fun, Leggos games are fun too. They don't need to be violent or sexual to have a high fun factor. GTA, Crysis, Doom, Duke Nuke-em are fun, but for more mature gamers.
Well most kids now days experience sex at yung age...14+.. but i think it should be sex in games to some degre like if its not a Porn game game.I would be angry if There was sex in GTA like showing male or female parts or even worst sex intercorse..Cuz the box of the gameplay does say 16+ or 18+ but there are most young kids that play it,and if i was a father i would have mixed feelings..
"I would be so terrified if my son would see sexual intercourse during the time he smashes peoples teeth out with a baseballbat and then when the victim is lying on the ground continue to kick his ribs broken and after that empty a clip out of an AK47 into his body and continue his killing spree hopping into a car and driving over people and shooting cops at the same time."
Excuse me? I'm having mixed feelings right now.
I really don't mind sex in games as long as it's done tastefully and is just part of the story. Remember the controversy in Mass Effect? It was blown out of proportion by fox news it said it was full nudity and was part of the gameplay which was untrue. It might really offend me if it was shown in a very sleazy way.
Well, that's USA for me.. It#s kinda funny.. here in germany they bash every bit of force, brutality and killing in games, and say games like counterstrike and so on are the reason for people go on killing sprees but show tits at 4pm in tv... and see no red line btween that a sexual herassment at teenagers -.- in the states they bash nudity and sex but violance is common in the media around the clock. Thats why "morality" is such a jerk for me, since i varys on the place you life.
Well what do you expect from Fox News?
Always pulling shtuff from their arses!
Actually I don't care that much.
Games in which you see explicit sexual acts will sell better to some people but hell, why should I buy a game just because there are boobs or whatever in it? Porn is made for that, isn't it?
If the game contains sexual themes or other 18+ sexual themes it's OK for me, but I don't need them.
Why not? There is nothing wrong with sex. Sex isn't illegal (unless under 18 of course).
Btw, ohno i lost the game D:
are way to many emotions in games as is. A hardon will only make my girlfriend more lonely! Besides, she doesn't mind to much about my 3-5h gaming at the moment and I like it like that.
Very nice poll.
The very reason why games are rated Mature, 17 and up, are for the content that is presented in them. I do agree with others where it does seem a bit funny how some are offended by sex in video games but then they turn around and play games like CODMW2, with the merciless gunning down of civilians in the airport and have no problems.
Sex in video games is not that big of a deal to me. For instance GTA IV. From re-playing the game many and many of times, there are very very brief sexual cutscenes in the many hours of gameplay. The other times are cutaways showing the outside of windows while hearing moaning. Doesn't really bother me. As for the picking up the girls on the street, not very entertaining. I would rather be driving through the city seeing how many times I can crash my car before it stops working. I do however believe that games with the reoccurring and excessive amounts of nudity and sex should be rated with an AO rating.
Main problem would be the parents. They need to start paying attention to their children more. Paying attention to them by actually looking at the game rating before actually purchasing it. If the employee, let us say Best Buy, doesn't know anything about the game 8-9 times out of 10 some random customer in the game department will say "Whoa whoa! Do not get that for your 8 year-old! It has nudity and disememberment in it!" Bottom line : Parents just need to pay attention to what games they are purchasing for their child. Not paying attention and being enraged after not checking before hand. There are also ways to lock certain games based on ratings and set a password so that children will not be able to access them.
Is it needed, no. Should it be removed as an option to developers, no. Just like a rated R movie, M rated games are NOT for kids. They are games for adults and adults should be allowed to view any type of material they want. Some games will do it better than others. Everything from a gratuitous sex scene in a GTA like game to something more respectable like we have seen in Mass Effect. In Mass Effect those moments are actually pretty important to parts of the story and effect what happens after that. Depending if you do or don't have relations with characters.
One thing I have never understood about people is why they get so worked up over seeing naked bodies and sexual content, but having a person ripped to pieces with guts hanging out is totally OK. "AHHHH, put your boobs away! Now, let me gut you and see what's inside!" Something seems wrong with that.....
I think it depends on the game. Duke Nukem was a game that thrived on it being "not right": bad language, suggestive EVERYTHING, etc...
That being said, I don't think you need full on sex scenes, but certain games can be explicit without being porn.
I say no because it is already all over the internet on sexy sites so why not keep games for all ages. It kind of sucks to have sex in games. It can shock you. There's plenty of other places to get sexy content to whack off. Pardon my french. Rodney, thank you for the great tech questions videos and the live show videos. I think you have helped me understand more things about computer hardware than I realize.
Games are for all ages but not all games are for all ages. That's why there is a ratings system.
Simple ,in germany you can get porn with the age 18+
We should have adult rated video games it was not really necessary in GTA series.
I want some more adult games to be available why is the only country that has adult games Japan have heaps of adult games.
If people want it. Some games it would be wierd, but it's ok to make and Adult game for Adults.
needs a lot more imo haha ;)
As long as its tasteful, most of the time its pointless so I don't care if it is or not. Big deal we are all grown-ups...or should be mature.
Its not really needed, but if it is allowed in movies, it should be allowed in games.
It is well within the gamemakers rights to do so. Just like you have a choice of weather or not you want to buy a movie with that content in it. If you don't like it then don't buy it.
For me it kills the gaming experience if it is too explicit because if I want to see something like that I have better options of seeing it somewhere else where than in a game.
Sometimes is good & sometimes not.
So many games and so little with actual explicit sexual acts. The boobs in GTA IV were covered lol ... give me a break :D
The only thing other than that that comes up is Leisure Suit Larry, most games these days are fleshed out games (pardon the pun) with little deviation from what we've been playing for the last 10 years; that is - cookie cutter 3D clone after cookie cutter 3D clone.
So sad that rating is actually an issue for game developers to omit stuff which belongs in a game, think Duke Nukem and Mortal Kombat. But hey Walmart doesn't want to have 18+ games on their shelves so lets just omit the very reason we buy these games, money > all etc.
I think its something we shouldn't be sensitive about, its something I don't really care about but wouldn't mind seeing it more often in games.
I myself am tired of game developers sensitive towards people that may shy away from adult content in games or those that are too squeamish towards blood and things of that nature, as long as the rate the game accordingly, there shouldn't be any reason why games shouldn't put sex or gory things in games, it'd add more realism to games if you ask me.
Some mom and dads may moan about their child seeing such things but its their fault in the first place that their child has seen such things, its their job to watch their kid and decide rather there going to allow their kids to see such things.
I'm almost sure that some mother or dad is going to get duke nukem forever banned from a city or state, maybe on that new trailer alone heh.
yes and lots of it
If it goes with the story in a passionate form, then keep it in. But if it's just some shooter or MMO with almost no story and it's all blood and gore, leave it out (well, I might not even be playing the game).
If it bothers you, then the game should just have a "Skip Sex Scene" option or a button to skip cinematic.
sex is a natural thing of life! btw: in the daily news you can see more crime, harm and violence then in any computer game! even in tv-advertising you can see more sex. so what's the problem?
I don't think that sex should be prohibited from a game. If you don't want it in your games, then don't play those games.
I'm not bothered by sexual content in games, but to be honest I think it distracts from the game. If I want a wank, I'll have a wank, not play a game...
If it would fit with the story and image of the game i really dont see why not in an M rated game.. if you cant handle it by then you have issues. If small kids play it, blame the parents.
no, why have sex in games if you wanted to see some sex just google lol i think boobies every were is better then oral sex (in games of course)
I don't really care.It all depends on the game and the sexual act,if it's sick and twisted or in someway degrading for either sex then maybe no it should not, but if it's just boobs arse's and willies then ok, BUT!! i'm a father do i want my kids playing these games?? like i said general sex acts are ok but then it's up to me to supervise my kids on what games they are playing or NOT playing.
its rated m for a reason
Depends, using sex as a tool to sell games is kind of stupid.
If it ties in to the story or adds to the realism of a game, I say go for it.
Yeah why not.
if its 18+ games it should contain some/more sexual acts, depends on the story, Like the God of War 3 when Kratos meet Afrodites( the goddess of love) That mini game was funny!. :)
I know the average person that visits 3GM are young males. I know what they want because I want it to. However as a father I'm finding it very hard to allow my kids to play popular games when they contain unneeded explicit sex and foul language. Whatever happened to those days when we had options to turn that stuff off?
they do add to the story, but that's why there's ESRB ratings on the front of the case
Sex in computer games isnt needed. please omit for the future
why not? sex shouldn't be a taboo anymore, and besides there's tons and tons and tons [...] of porn on the internet so if your opinion is that there shouldn't be sex on games because of the young, than it makes no sence because they will eventually find it on the web xD
i think that romantic scenes are sometimes good for the story line especially in rpg and in DA1 the end mission had an option in it for a dark ritual so you would they alive so sex was even a good element in it(if you played the game you would understand) but in fps games it is mostly not necessary but in bond games it is just a part of the story :p
