I pirate everything here and there but i dont pirate "good games". if i know a game is gunna be good then i will buy it and hope my $60 was well worth it.
i pirate movies because everything is DRM, id rather have just the AVI, MKV or what have you
I pirate thing that are over-priced such as adobe cs5 and windows 7. Other than that, I usually buy products like games when it's on sale.
I pirate everything and have saved thousands of euros with that.
Though if I find out that one of my pirated games is really good, I will buy it so I can play it online. This way I can test games properly before spending money (most games don't come with demos anymore).
Windows 7 is my only pirated software. Who wants to pay $100+ for that?
I actually paid for Windows 7 because I liked it that much and there was a good deal for 50$ on the upgrade. :)
Maybe a couple of things (that I normally can't buy cuz the're too expensive)... -FBI knocks on the door-
lol @ 50% r pirates
ya i pirate right about everything,my windows 7 and xp and vista, all my music about 10 gbs of music, about 58 movies, and about 56 new released games, had to buy 2 western digital black 1 terabyte,my anti virus, and some times i sell them for a low price...hahah all in all prob saved 10,000 dollers in pirated stuff..good topic
"Maybe an operating system here and then" xD
Honestly, I have to admit, my OS is stolen. I've not paid for my Linux :P
Now for real: I don't think that piracy is that bad if you use it to try the product out. Music for example. If you download some album to just look if it fits your taste it's OK (as long as you buy the album later on or at least you want to buy it later on). Same goes with movies. How often have I found out how crappy a film was after I paied for the cinema ticket. SO downloading the film and having a quick look is not 'bad'. Same goes for Games as well. Boy, I'm glad that I have not purchased Modern Warfare 2 with all the crap which is going on in the Online World. If there is no deo for the game or the demo does not tell you enough about the game fo me pirating a game is OK if you want just have a closer look at the game...
Do I pirate Software? Yes. Everything on my system is downloaded from the web. My OS (Ubuntu 10.04), my webbrowser (Firefox), my mail client (Thunderbird) and I have even not paid for my media player (VLC). I also play games on Windows but I don'T use my PC for that pupose...
umm ubuntu, firefox, vlc, and thunderbird are free thats not pirating
Linux is free, Firefox is free, Thunderbird and VLC are also free. So why do you say you pirate?
He was being sarcastic.
It depends on how far the definition of pirating software extends, say you want to play some old console games on emulator; I don't consider that pirating as both the console as the games aren't being sold anymore (apart from XBLA / similar available titles) so no revenue lost.
Movies if they're old enough, same deal. Music same deal. Ofcourse it doesn't help that I grew up with Napster and the notion that I shouldn't pay premium money for software :) Funny thing is, I eventually ended up things buying I really liked which I wouldn't have otherwise hadn't it been for Napster / Kazaa etcetera... so it's not all bad.
My 2 cents on this would be that people who generally don't have spare cash to spend on games or movies/music but have an Internet connection shouldn't be looked down upon for occasionally downloading some stuff just to keep themselves in the loop. Sampling if you will. If you do have a full-time job though and can easily afford it, don't be a douche and just buy the product.
I hope this answers this poll, and keep the polls coming ;-)
I pirate music all the time...
Movies i'll download if it's not on dvd... but i will buy it on bluray or dvd when it's released as i like to collect them...
I never realy pirate big games... Crysis, Counterstrike, Bad company, modern warfare.... But i'll download the old school games... age of empires, the sims etc...
As for software... Operating systems are legal... Everything else, unfortunatly isn't payed for.
I buy my software generaly, the last time I pirated was over 3 years ago. And that was a Drivers DVD :D
i pirate. i admit it, everything should be free, or perhaps the best way to word that is (could) be free. Even by means of advertising.
I'm having to pirate software less and less because of the amazing amount of freeware, and im pirating less and less games also because of steams great sales.
Music on the otherhand, i will never stop pirating, if i like the band i'll support them by going to their shows, or buying merch but otherwise, when you buy an album, a tenth of a cent goes to the artist and the rest goes to the producer/label - thats b.s. -
I unfortunately pirate everything... I have no other option because Im so poor lol. I dont like pirating and I would buy everything if I had enough money. I have though, like some other people, played a game, and liked it so much that I bought the game just to support the devs. Or if there is a hot new title coming out that has a multilayer (like Bad Company 2) I will buy the game so that I can play online
I pirate everything but if I liked the game or app, I BUY IT
I buy everything i even bought win 7 ultimate
I usually have no need to pirate software. I use free software a lot and i'm a comp sci student so i get a lot of software for free. However i do still have some pirated pieces on file though mostly things which no one would expect me to buy in the first place like Visual Basic ($250) or professional media apps ($2000+). These apps were never targeted at me, the developers never expected me to buy a copy or even know that their software existed, it's not a lost sale or even a lost sale to a budget competitor.
In the case of films and music i buy the things i like. I pirate first and then if i like it enough i go buy a copy. I still keep old data on file as i'm really against abandonware. I won't buy an out of print album for an extortionate price when i know that the money is just going to a collector and not the musician. Also sometimes it is literally impossible to find a legal copy.
These problems are pretty common for me as i like a lot of obscure foreign bands where you can't even attempt to get hold of a legal copy unless you can speak fluent Russian. They're even more common for my dad who has some incredibly rare pieces which are recorded in countries that no longer exist, the CD press factories have been bulldozed and been turned in to a housing estates and all the musicians have completely disappeared, it is literally impossible to get hold of a copy unless you pirate and still pirating requires you to find a burned disk in some specialist music shop in central Armenia.
I, like many others, pirate everything that's not free.
90% of the games i´ve played were pirated BUT if i liked them i waited till they were about 20 bucks in store and bought them to support the publisher.
i hope this answers your poll and keep your polls coming
I don't pirate but i "Share" music and movies.
Let me also add music and movies to the poll.
I dont know if people are voting that just because they think is funny, or do people really pirate everything??? lol
I do pretty much, lol.
haha stuff like Sony Vegas, Photoshop and After Effects are so over priced. The price tag on them just says "Piratebay" to me
i dont really pirate enitrely, i only try and get few things that you cant find anymore for a reasonalble price for its age, and sometimes i get asked to pirate installs for friends, but i never really pirate everything, most i pirate i atleast have a key for.
If I can't afford it, it's not reasonably priced, or no longer available or not available in my region, I pirate it, LOL.
almost everything! :P
but I still buy stuff when it's good! :)
