well im fat and not ashamed to admit it but me being fat is certainly nothing to do with my computer
and everything with the kinds of foods i like although i am eating better foods now also since i am getting out of the house and going for a walk for at least an hour everyday i am feeling better had i not. me being fat has everything to do with life experiences and the dirt bags ive come into contact with along with the depressing job our government is doing no thanks to scott walker lol! keep creating those jobs man! take from the rich and give to the poor what a wonderdful fantasy for the rest of us to have! also in new england where the weather is about as good as taking a dump on a sunny day this i feel contributes to the discouraging feeling people have of getting outside!

Depending on each person, some people eat while they use their computers which is a bad combination. At other times, gaming freaks play to the point where they don't even need to eat! They just got to keep playing. So therefore, it can make you fat and skinny.

no
being lazy make you fat

There will always be (like rain) individuals who can't or won't exercise restraint - for these, I'd say others would have to be their guides.

Since I have to spend 8+ hours a day with one, (I'm a stay at home dad that does remote support calls while cooking, driving and minding the kids), there's usually no time left to get on the tread mill. So yeah, mind makes me fat!

Anonymous

Computers can make you fat eventually, Because computers make your brain think that you need to eat more. It is a fact.

So if people admit to it and eat, then yes. The computers can make people fat eventually.

Anonymous

That's a result of a person's conscious decision to eat more. It would take some pretty serious evidence to suggest that a computer can force you to eat more regardless of your decision. But since currently you have to choose to eat more and many computer users choose not to (or just exercise properly and limit their time), the computer itself cannot be held responsible. It's just a bunch of chips with copper and silicon.

"If computers make you fat, stop eating them!" yup :DD... I think that computers are little reason to get fat... they are kinda addictive :)

Anonymous

It is not the computer that makes you fat, it's your choices that do. Playing WoW all day and eating cheesy poofs will make you fat. But taking some brakes to interact witht he real world and doing something will keep you at a more respectable weight. Toss a little heavy exercise like going tot he gym or play some sports (paintball for me) and you will be in even better shape.

Ofc they dont , watch bodys of programers coz these guys used to sit in computer 25 hours every day(and i think they need to recruit couple of pounds.

All the people saying computers don't make you fat are all heavy computer users. Haha. Jk.

Anonymous

No, from my own experience and what i've seen in computing classes, on forums and looking at pro gamers and such there is no correlation between weight and computer use. Generally i think it may even be the opposite with heavy computer users being lighter than the general public, not fitter but lighter. There seem to be more people in computing with little fat and little muscle than people with a lot of fat.

I spend an average of 3 hrs per day on my computer(s). I am 21 years old, 6'1", and 220 lbs. Am I fat? Depends on who you talk to. I was at 240 a month ago, but not because of computers. It was because of what i did while "on" the computer: eat chips, knock back non-sugar free monsters/rockstars by the case and in general just vegetate. 5 weeks ago, I threw out every single piece of junk food in the house and have eaten nothing but healthy and sugar free foods since then; I've also started walking at least an hour a day. @ 2/3 lbs lost per day by essentially doing nothing, i am surprised that this is even an issue.

Going for a walk while listening to an mp3 player or ipod clears my head and not only makes you feel better, but more energized reducing the "need" for energy drinks. Want to score top 3 in COD, go for a walk before you play. Want to beat that final boss? go for a walk first. Want to get laid? ..... lol

Why drink an apple flavoured drink when you could just have an apple?

Very insightful post and I agree.

I'm very active outside of all this computer stuff. Out every day doing something active, walking, roller-blading, biking, street hockey, etc. My young kids are keeping me crazy active these days :)

Yo I am so glad I have ADHD, why because Methylphenidate(Ritalin/Concerta) is known to cause you to lose your appetite and make you focus more. So I can stop myself from eating easily. Not that I don't like food or eating, it is just I have ADHD. Right now I am a 5'11' 18 year old who only weighs 115 to 120 LBs, so that is kind of sad. I hope I never get fat, but I hope I build muscle.

I think this is one of the most funniest poles. But ya it doesnt make you fat. Depends on the individual and his/her laziness lol.

8+ hours a day on the computer drinking soda and playing games.. Well maybe just a little fat. I'll post some news that points to why we get fatter on the computer.

I sleep fine at night knowing we are banning people who deserve it.  Tivon

it can also be the opposite...?

Anonymous

No...they don't LOL. Sure I use my computer a lot, but I do other things such as play an instrument, and go to the gym at least once a week and work out. It is beyond me how anyone can possess the stupidity to think that computers make one fat.

Anonymous

ok whoever blames the computer that it makes him fat must look deep down and ask himself why did i even buy it then....because if you cant keep your body in shape, you have to blame yourself for spending that time on the computer when you could have focused some of it to keep your body in shape....

What's the point, being thin or being healthy? Most of you guys may be thin but you wouldn't last long in a 500 m run.

If you go to any LAN tourny you'll see that's not true everyone there (including me) are stick thin then again alot of that is caused by younger metabolisms, I bike almost everywhere I go alone anyway so I would stay in relative shape even if I didn't have a fast metabolism

Anonymous

I read somewhere that most gamers may look thin but have the physique of a 90 year old.

I think this is what you mean: http://www.sk-gaming.com/content/29714-Pro_gamers_pilots_reactions_smokers_bodies

"One leading gamer in his twenties appeared to be slim and healthy with a physique similar to an endurance athlete.

But tests revealed he in fact had the lung function and aerobic fitness of a heavy smoker in his sixties."

I make myself fat, lol. It's not like my computer is shoving 1/2 pound cheeseburgers down my throat, and it's not making me sit on the computer, watch tv, or play video games either. I'm in charge, and I'm going to start changing my habits once school starts again, since I can take advantage of the school's gym. I pay for it out of my tuition anyway, so it'd be a waste to not use it.

eating a lot doesn't make you fat, as long as you do some actual workouts daily you'll be fine.

Anonymous

Not directly, but they can be addicting and cause you not to exercise, and anything can cause you to gain weight.
