Well, i think it depends really. If you trust your product then no, but if you want to stand out...THEN HELL YEAH!

Anonymous

Not really.

Since they are shallow as hell. Now if there were some geeky girls ot at least not totally dumb ass looking-that would be different.

But stupidity is not sexy in my ROM.

Anonymous

Only fat virgin nerds who can't get the fine women say things like that. Quit lying to yourself.

Anonymous

Good looking AND smart, now that's sexy.

Birdbrain with good looks = nice to look at but if you have to live with her for a long period you'll just grow a headache wich will result in a life long trauma.

Utter geeky and looking like it = someone you would be able to have a good debate with and have an intelligent conversation with. But everytime you wake up in the morning you'll turn around and continue sleeping.

If you have someone who's fine enough to look at AND be able to talk with, any woman who fits in that corner is from my point of view, sexy.

Anonymous

Another thing, if you're not geeky at all.
What in the world are you even doing here?

they are not required but they are needed other wise i might not buy that ati card lol

As a marketing major, i feel i need to chip in my $0.02. Booth Babes are there to draw attention to a specific area, the same way as flashy lights or big TV's do. Attention = awareness and exposure. If people feel strongly either way, they will be inclined to discuss their thoughts with others, creating awareness about the company. Another thing, most men will "drop their guard" so to speak around beautiful women. Not only does the company now have many people in their booth, but they are now more easily influenced by external factors.

No matter how you look at it, Attention = results.

Anonymous

Obvious innit? Heck yea!
From the business point of view... they, tend to attract attention to your stand, in other words draw people to YOUR product!
Aaand from another business perspective, they also eat up all the attention wich would otherwise be spend on your product..... :D

Hell yea!!!!

Absolutely not, I honestly find it degrading towards women.

Anonymous

How is it degrading? The women chose to do this as a career and aren't forced to do it. Not every women as a "feminist." Some still act and look like women and not fat girls lying to themselves about inner beauty.

Anonymous

Sure you like generalizing, people that believe in "inner" beauty as you call it, are not fat and nerd, it's just people that believes a "pretty" body doesn't mean everything on earth unlike you people.

Anonymous

personally I don't like them,
But hey it works!
and I love the ending rod!

Anonymous

Can't believe there are actual men who voted no in here. And you nerds ask yourselves, why am I still a virgin?

Anonymous

I will send you picture of myself naked so you make sure I might be nerd but still hot...dumb people seriously...

Anonymous

Or they are not turned on by ritardet (as stupid) looking girls.

Anonymous

Or they are married men, women or know what they want on these events and don't want to be distracted by booth babes. ;)

Necessary? No, not at all. But they certainly do make things interesting.

Sex sales EVERYTHING. I've been to a few conventions some with and some with out the booth babes. The ones with booth babes are certainly more entertaining. Not just because of the woman either. It seems that the whole atmosphere is different. There are a younger generation of techies hanging around and more flashy events going on. Where as if you go to one with out the babes its more professional and rather boring. More informative I think but that could just be because theres nothing else for your mind to linger on.

I think it comes down to what your target audience is.  If you are trying to sell the next hardcore gaming gpu and processor then your audience is more than likely going to be younger and booth bads will bring in the crowd.

Besides theres nothing hotter than a chick in short shorts and a tube top telling you how the product works/its specs. Doesn't matter that she's really just reading what she had to memorize or not.

what the hell are you guys that voted no. GAY?

Booths without babes is like...

  • Hotdogs without buns
  • Macaroni without cheese
  • Tim Hortons without donuts
  • A car without wheels

You get the picture. Booth Babes foreva!!

Necessity: They are necessary for the same reason models are necessary. To draw your attention. Once they have your attention, your eyes finally peel away to notice lovely morsels of geek fantasy dreams on the tables and display cases.

As any advertising guru will tell you - sex sells.

for some strange reason, when Rodders showed us his ring i felt sick. i guess this isnt a good sign is it?
but yeah i dont think they are necessary at all, but i love seeing them there and they do promote products well.

Anonymous

Booth babes aren't just there to be pretty and make you buy things. I think they also make sure that a decent male audience shows up in the first place.

And even if you're married, Rodney, eyeing is not a crime! :)

Anonymous

they aren't necessary. I can understand if they're meant to look like a character in the game or something, but random hot chicks are not really necessary. I don't buy pc gear or games because of T&A.

Well it's always fun to have them there. But no.

I mostly look at the products.

(Girlfriend ftw!)

I wish I could buy computers for 5$

SECONDED! (more when your girl is a hot one like mine ;) )

"Not really"

Of course you dont NEED booth babes but if I can check out brand new awesome tech and occasionaly check out a nice looking lady then why not? It creates an all in all 'feel good' environment.

Anonymous

Not really needed... Just get some good NORMAL advertisement and you're set.

I happen to be a man, but I do not feel as though booth babes are really going to affect my opinion. I honestly have no interest in them, just the products. I would rather have a knowledgeable and professional person.

It's quite odd to market computer hardware with "sex". Okay they stand there and use their hands to frame the product - My eyes work well thanks. Open it up and look around - that's good if your say filming but I like to do that stuff myself.

I find it quite funny as it's almost like the companies are just taking the piss:

"Okay your a computer nerd, so this is what you have: HD 5970, and this is what you would have had: Half naked girl"

Personally no, I don't think their needed, I don't agree with women becoming objects. My girlfriend is a hot gamer as it is so heck - who needs booth babes! Not like you'd get anything anyway.

Anonymous

If I go to see a product, I don't wanna be distracted by some half naked bimbos. Plus it's very demeaning to women to use them as accessories. I'm surprised how women have not complained about it yet.

Anonymous

Why? They are basically models who make money by standing around and looking pretty. Thats not really different from what Heidi Klum or Tyra Banks did for most of their career and nobody goes 'well thats demeaning' when they do it.

Anonymous

I hate model jobs too...

Anonymous

But now we have two different points:
1 - You hate model jobs.
2 - Modeling is demeaning.

One has nothing to do with the other. Just because you hate it doesnt make it demeaning - and it isnt.

I don't mind the eye candy, but I'm not dumb enough to think that those girls give two poops about me and I'm not dumb enough to get seduced into buying something just because a half naked girl is behind the booth.

The gaming industry really tries to sell sex and they know that if they put a huge pair of knockers on a female avatar, desperate gaming nerds (not all gamers) will buy the product without caring if the game is actually good or not.  If you play games on the newer consoles, they put more physics into the jiggling of her cans than they do in the real gaming world!  I feel sorry for those guys who fall for this trap and end up with shovel ware.

My wife was a booth babe in the late 1990s and early 2000s. She made awesome money and a lot of free gifts from lonely men and sometimes women. What was actually sad is the people who would hit on her that just were so nasty and gross. She was always nice and point to her wedding ring. That only made them more wanting her lol.

Anonymous

its utterly disgusting.

Women are treated as sexual objects.

It seems like they are promoting women and porn instead of their products. No matter what they do, they wont be able to sell if their products aint that good even with half naked women around it.

It should be all about the product, you dont want anything or anyone to take attention away from your product.

lol you need women to get to know about products???

You are there in exhibitions to check the products out.... Making an excuse that you missed a product because there was not a woman there to attract your attention. SO SHALLOW

Hi, My Name is Haggis. Check out our hot new video cards at the Computex hub.

Hot women need to earn a living and put food on the table. Maybe a little shallow, but would you hire an ugly person to display your best products?

I sleep fine at night knowing we are banning people who deserve it.  Tivon

I agree with shallowness too

surely you wont find anyone looking like that..

so exaggerated.

Someone (no matter how ugly) formally dressed would be more well prepared than half naked woman.

Surely, women are always judge by how beautiful they are, thats why they are required to show body to get attention.

This is suppose to be professional.

I refuse to answer on the grounds that it may incriminate me...

i think a good product doesn't need that kind of advertisement.
