i would really love to have one with LOTS of terabytes of storage ^^
I WANT ONE!!!!!!!! :-/
I really want a HTPC it looks like something pretty cool and i'll probably use my old 2600XT SilentPipe II (pasive low profile cooling)
I have one I use for a DVR. I would hate to be without it. Or pay some one for the use of theirs
You should do a review of the new cable card tuner from Ceton.
Shipping at the end of May, it allows the home HTPC builder to add one card that with one cable M-Card will record four HD shows at once.
i watch movie on every computer in my entire house ...i dont realy have use for an HTPC.
HTPC is outdated now. I use a HD O!Play Air media streaming device by ASUS to access any HD video, pictures, or music on my wireless N network. No wires, no hassles, and less cost than a HTPC.
I actually don't need a HTPC. I don't watch that much movies and if I do I watch them in the cinema. The TV program is crap most of the time and a HTPC ids not a gaming PC.
So there is actually no use for a HTPC for now for me.
I don't own one but I like to have one but then again i don't know how to set a HTPC
I do not really like the idea of browsing through my media archive via a remote control. Also I do have all my media on a RAID 1 setup that is connected to my PC (2x2TB Western Digital Green) and one NAS (Intel Atom 2GB RAM, 2x500GB Samsung F1, Ubuntu 10.04). So I would need to have my PC powered on the whole time. My 22" Samsung T220s are well suited for everything I need. One other thing is that I prefer watching TV in English but except for the BBC World Channel, everything is German so I have a big Sat.receiver with lots and lots of cables so any new device would it make even more of a mess.
If there ever is a cheap device that can do all that I definitely will get it.
No results after vote?
I have pritty old HTPC system but its in new case :D
Intel Celeron 1.7 ghz, 1 gb ram, 250gb, Win XP
Thats good for me :P
I didn't even know what it was.
I used to have one, but since all this encryption crap on cable TV there is really no point in keeping a seperate box for that.
Hooking up the regular PC to a beamer was a much better idea.
No, I dont have much use for one. If I want to watch movies on my TV I can just stream them to my 360 over the network.
My PC screen (22" 16:9 LCD) is bigger than my TV (20" 4:3 LCD) , but my TV has better speakers connected to it so it is hard to choose sometimes.
Can't see the results.
HTPC might be cute to own, but for me it's about number 99 on my top 100 things I want, right behind a punch in the face.
I want to have a HTPC, but i want to wait till micro-atx motherboards are reliable enough to overclock, use full video cards, great passive heat sinks, and a very sturdy bios. Till then i will wait or until i sell my current rig (Its a mid-tower case).
i use my gaming pc to watch movies
pretty much my first gaming system put inside the Antec HTPC case with added Athlon 6000 and ASUS Xonar sound card.
its hooked up to a 1080p projector and a Yamaha 5.1 amp through optical
HTPC since early 2007, only way to go! all in one entertainment system ya know.. free tv shows over the net, blu-ray.. gaming, music, everything. got to have some nice speakers though.. at least 5.1. i have the Bose Companion 5's, they work gr8 for pretty much everything ;-)
I went through a lot of stuff just to be able to stream media to my TV.
First, I had Windows Media Center on a desktop and set up my Xbox 360 to connect to it. The codecs were never updated, so I can't play new DivX, MP4s, xvids and MKV was horrible. I spent lots of time converting to WMVs. It was irritating.
I did a lot of shopping around for media players. Now I'm using a Patriot Box Office Media Player which connects to a share drive on my desktop. It's much better, fast forwarding is smoother, supports subtitles and compatible with just about everything, even DVD ISOs. The GUI needs work and they need to be consistent with their updates.
At the moment, it's perfect. The moment I have compatibility issues again, I'll find something else. I still have my eyes set on AC Ryan as an alternative.
With the 360, if you just use the normal video streaming that doesnt go through the media center, it supports more codecs, including divx.
I have a server with a MythTV backend where my Ubuntu server 10.04 resides. I have an HTPC with MythTV as a frontend when running Ubuntu 9.10 (I compiled MythTV 0.23 in Ubuntu 9.10). However, my remote control for my Cooler Master RC-280 case does not work with Windows Vista Ultimate SP2. I don't know why, but I couldn't open up Windows Media Center with my remote control.
Yes, I do, I use my PC to watch movies, play games, acces the internet, work, just a litlle bit of everything.
I kind of do, I have a media server that has all my ripped DVD's and blurays on it, and I stream them to my wd tv live- it saves on alot of space cause I dont have to have all my dvd's handy when I want to watch one, and the quality is great!
Yes I do. After the digital switchover, we cancelled dishnetwork and now only get our TV from the two htpc's I built (one for the living room, one for my "Jan Cave"). We get 7 off-the-air beautiful high-def channels here, then with the Hulu plugin and RSS video feeds plugin, we still get most of the stuff we used to watch regularly plus a whole lot more. Plus, hey, these are pc's, so we can also check our email, facebook, etc on them, as well as gaming. Totally the way to go.
I have absolutely no use for a HTPC for one reason... I don't watch movies! lol, although I have a 5.1 audio setup on my gaming rig :D
...and no poll results, it just allows you to vote and then the page refreshes :(
When I vote I can't see the results. Using latest Firefox.
My big gaming PC is located directly beside my TV. So through the magic of the HDMI cable I really have no use for a dedicated HTPC.
I just press 2x Win+P to get to my TV and 4x Win+P to get back to my TFT. Works like a charm :)
No, but i want one. I just voted and i can't see the poll results. I like to see poll results after vote.
I wish, and I probably will get one in the near future.
Does my hp mini 311 count? xD
I don't have one, but I'd like one :)
does a ps3 count?
Where is the poll? Is it or all i can is to leave a comment with yes or no?
I do not but I sure wish I did. Though being a college student and living at home for the most part I think if I invested in one it would be a waste. We don't have an up to date big screen tv or surround sound system so yea..
I hope to build one based on the ATOM.
i have a pc for playing blu rays with a 7.1 sound system and a 23.6inch monitor. love it
