Stone, I discovered in the mountains... :P
The polls are being remade into something better as we speak. Just thought I'd let you all know Zach is hard at work behind the curtains playing with his smoke and mirrors.
I like Cloth/Rubber because it is smooth on top and has some weight if the pad is thick enough.
For quite a while now I did use Sharkoon Xurface Pads but recently I've decided to switch to something more reliable and got me a cloth mousepad - the Roccat Taito. It is very very big. The best thing about that size is that when the surface is too damaged, I just turn it around and have new pad in seconds. Also it was pretty cheap and feels great.
I used a plastic mouse pad for about a year or two. Eventually, it became so worn from use that it became unusable. For some desks, I've gotten by with no mousepad. For a while I was just using a sheet of paper, but I've been using Cloth/Rubber more recently.
glass mousepad? wouldent the laser go strait through it??? it would work for ball mice but who uses them?
you should have added a "no mousepad" option, but now i just realized maybe non mousepad uses werent meant to take the poll. i choose wood because of my wooden desk that my mouse operates on, its coated with some smooth paint and works well

I use a Razer eXactMat which is an anodized aluminum mouse pad and to be correct (since there are 2 different sides on it) I use the control side at the moment. And I use this together with my Razer Diamondback 3G which has Teflon feet. It slides perfectly, no resistance and that results in being a lot better in first person shooters because you can be very accurate.
Im using a ranover squirel as a mousepad. I had to shave it.
I use Battle Pad CS-X From cooler master storm
use my desk...

I don't use a mouse pad, I just use my desk as a surface, it's basically the same thing as a hard surface mouse pad and there is no way I run out of space :)
roccat taito mousepad

I have a "Steel Mat" its acrylic and perfect for lazer mice as with cloth mats the lazer picks up the imperfections and is not smooth thou you wouldn't have that problem with optical mice but lazer beats all.
