Rage Release Date Announced 9/13/11 in the US

"At the conclusion of the Rage presentation at QuakeCon 2010, id Software creative director Tim Wilits announced that Rage would ship on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on September 13, 2011 in the US and two days later in Europe.

Non-split Screen Multiplayer Using Stereoscopic Technology

In two patents filed on July 14, 2009 and published on July 15, 2010, Sony appears to be investigating using stereoscopic technology to display different game scenes to two different players simultaneously, calling it "Stereoscopic Screen Sharing" (via Eurogamer).

Valve Boasts of 205% Steam Sales

Steam's unit sales increased by 205% in 2009 over 2008's figures, Valve has declared as part of an announcement detailing the digital distribution platform's growth last year.

According to the Half-Life and Left 4 Dead dev, this "extraordinary growth" marks "the fifth straight year the platform has realized over 100% year-over-year growth in unit sales."

"Active accounts" also rose 25% to pass 25 million, of which ten million have Steam Community profiles--though Valve does not explain what constitutes an "active" account.

Ubisoft Unveils New PC DRM

Update: Ubisoft has sent over an FAQ with more details (below) including a promise that should the service be stopped, games would be patched to remain playable.

Original: Developer and publisher Ubisoft's new PC DRM solution will feature no CD checks or installation limits and pack support for 'cloud' online saved game storage but will require players be online to authenticate before playing, GameSpy reveals.

Players will be required to login to their Ubi.com account to authenticate each and every time they wish to play--and there will be no support at all for offline play.

Modern Warfare 2 DLC Packs Due in Spring

It seems that Modern Warfare 2 will receive more than one downloadable add-on this spring, based off Microsoft's Consumer Electronics Show 2010 keynote. "This spring, the first content packs for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 from Activision will be available, again, exclusively first on Xbox 360," stated Microsoft's Robbie Bach.

Valve Details Left 4 Dead 2 PC Unlock Times

Hoping to ease the confusion about tonight's release of Left 4 Dead 2, Valve has updated the Left 4 Dead blog with a handy-dandy listing of worldwide Steam unlock times.

While those seeking the Xbox 360 edition will have to hit up a retailer--some are opening at local midnight for the occasion--those that have pre-ordered and pre-loaded the PC version via Steam will be able to play at:

Left 4 Dead 2 PC Demo Released

After a one-day delay, the PC demo for Left 4 Dead 2 preorder customers has been released. The demo offers co-op or LAN players a chance to check out the New Oreleans-centered "Parish" campaign. The demo will be available for non-preorder PC customers and Xbox Live Gold members on November 3. Last, and most definitely least, Xbox Live Silver members get access on November 10.

World of Warcraft Character Race Changer Launches

Blizzard today launched a new service that allows World of Warcraft players to change the race of their characters. The racial swap will cost players $25, and can only be performed on an inter-faction basis.

Modern Warfare 2 Adopts Steamworks on PC

Activision and Valve today announced that they've hammered out an agreement to get Valve's Steamworks suite of tools onto the PC version of Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2.

"All PC versions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be powered by Steamworks, providing gamers with auto-updating, anti-cheat technology, Steam Achievements, and the recently introduced Steam Cloud," reads the release.
