The European Commission has buried the hatchet with Microsoft after Redmond agreed to offer European consumers the choice of alternative browsers in Windows. In turn, the EC agreed to drop charges filed against Microsoft back in January.

Samsung's new Bada smartphone platform will support multiple Web browsers, social networking, and multitouch screens, Samsung executives explained at a launch event in London on Tuesday. But there are still many painful questions about this nascent smartphone OS - including whether it will ever come to U.S. phones.
"We are opening a new era of smartphones for everyone by deploying the Bada platform in a massive number of handsets," Samsung EVP Hosoo Lee said.
Today was Microsoft's final Patch Tuesday of 2009. Microsoft released a total of six new security bulletins, the most urgent one affecting a zero-day flaw in Internet Explorer for which exploit code already exists.
Barring any urgent security issues or exploits circulating in the wild to force an out-of-band update, the total number of security bulletins for 2009 is 74--a 5 percent drop from the 78 security bulletins released in 2008.

Google's Chrome OS has been the darling of open source developers for a while, and now it just got a bit more serious.
ChromeiumOS64 is a new Chrome project with 64-bit support and it should offer a bit more potential for more serious use on proper, 64-bit CPUs. In addition to 64-bit support, ChromeiumOS64 also features Xen hypervisor! and allows users to run virtual machines on Linux or even Windows.
Microsoft has suffered a blow behind the bamboo curtain after a Chinese court ordered versions of Windows with a particular typeface withdrawn from sale.
Vole had an agreement with Chinese technology company, Zhongyi Electronic, which designs Chinese character fonts. However the court said that Vole violated the scope of licensing agreements and will have to stop selling its Chinese versions of its Windows 98, 2000, 2003 and Windows XP.
Chinese pirates are doing something that Microsoft didn't – they are starting to peddle versions of Windows 7 on a USB stick.
