Unreal 4 Engine requires 10 times the power

"During a presentation at the DICE 2012 summit, Epic’s Tim Sweeney claims that the new Unreal 4 Engine requires 2.5 teraflops of power for what Epic believes the next generation of graphics running on its engine will look like. To put that into perspective, the current Xbox 360 only yields about .25 teraflops of power. This is clearly not enough to power the future of gaming with the current Xbox 360 console. Of course, you could maybe network 10 Xbox 360s together to get enough power."

Flash With Sandbox in the Works for Firefox

"Adobe, which has spent the last few years trying to dig out of a deep hole of vulnerabilities and buggy code, is making a major change to Flash, adding a sandbox to the version of the player that runs in Firefox. The sandbox is designed to prevent many common exploit techniques against Flash. The move by Adobe comes roughly a year after the company added a sandbox to Flash for Google Chrome.

Profile Scheduler App is KICKASS

I personally use this Profile Scheduler on my Galaxy Nexus Smartphone and it's an App just about everyone can find a use for. I use it mostly for silencing my phone when I go to sleep, but it has a ton of other features. My wife also uses it to put her phone into meeting mode when at work, using a local LAN to do so.

XBMC 11.0: Eden Beta 2 available now

"It’s been a productive few weeks in the race to release Eden. Since Beta 1, unencrypted bluray, dvd player, startup problems in OSX, airplay, subtitle issues, unofficial addon repository installations, and the frustrating TMDB scraper problems that have made it difficult for everyone to scrape new movies have all seen fixes. In addition, a great deal of progress has been made in the new XBMCBuntu build, which should be ready for the next preview release. Finally, all Beta 1 users are encouraged to update immediately to fix a scraper error that causes XBMC to crash.

The Behind-the-Scenes Campaign To Bring SOPA To Canada

"SOPA may be dead (for now) in the U.S., but lobby groups are likely to intensify their efforts to export SOPA-like rules to other countries. With the Canadian DMCA back on the legislative agenda at the end of the month, Canada will be a prime target for SOPA style rules.

Google End Piracy, Not Liberty

"Two bills before Congress, known as the Protect IP Act (PIPA) in the Senate and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the House, would censor the Web and impose harmful regulations on American business. Millions of Internet users and entrepreneurs already oppose SOPA and PIPA. The Senate will begin voting on January 24th. Please let them know how you feel. Sign this petition urging Congress to vote NO on PIPA and SOPA before it is too late."

Windows 8 Reset, Refresh Options Clean OS Crud

"We've built two new features in Windows 8 that can help you get your PCs back to a 'good' state when they're not working their best, or back to the 'factory state' when you're about to give them to someone else or decommission them," said Desmond Lee, a Windows program manager. Hitting the Reset button will remove all personal data, apps, and settings from a PC, and will reinstall Windows from scratch. Activating the Refresh mode also reinstalls Windows, but preserves the user's personal data, most settings, and Metro-style apps.

"Firefox 9 is now available — but unlike its previous rapid release forebears where not a lot changed, a huge feature has landed with the new version: the JavaScript engine now has type inference enabled.
