UPDATE:
All future video reviews will be posted on the http://www.3dGameMan... site approximately 2 weeks before they are posted on the 3dGameMan YouTube channel. So if you want to check out new content head over to http://www.3dGameMan.... This way both sites can co-exist and hopefully everyone is happy.

At the moment most future 3dGameMan YouTube videos will be unlisted. If you wish to view 3dGameMan videos in the future, please visit the http://www.3dGameMan... website. This decide was not made lightly, but I'm going back to basics and if you want to view 3dGameMan content, you'll need to visit the website. Fans of 3dGameMan already do this, but my hope is YouTubers will as well.

Please be aware that I'll be posting YouTube bulletins when a new video/video review is posted. So you YouTuber's won't be left in the dark, so to speak. But you'll still need to visit the 3dGameMan.com site to view the video/video review. So this will keep everyone in the loop. Also remember that everything gets posted on the 3dGameMan twitter, facebook and RSS feeds as well. Your comments are welcome.

Well if you think you can't say what you want here, you wouldn't be able to on youtube either.

also
Imo there are better video sites than youtube, and I think yt has been going down the drain for awhile.

Anonymous

My advise to you:

1.Stay in YouTube.
2.Enable comments.
3.Do great reviews like 1-2 years ago.
4.Let people have the freedom to say what they want.

Your channel was the first channel i subscribed to when i made an account on YouTube but sorry to say its not on top now and it makes me feel sad.

I have a Suggestion Rod.

I understand that most of us were YTubers before your FANS, and i also understand that some of the features that YT has that allows us to watch your videos as soon as you post them. I believe this is WHY your FANS are leaveing because you dont offer these features. I keep seeing that no one wants to come to your site to watch a review( or keep checking your site to see IF a review has been posted). I have an idea to Somewhat solve this problem( of course there still will be those that will leave you but this will help counter that)

and the idea issssssssss!
AUTOMAIL!

if ROD posts a review, contest,Q&A,or a poll, it will Automatically come to our email that will DIRECT us "Adoring Fans" to Rods site to view it. this way, We know when Rod has a review and not aimlessly checking Rods site for something new.(i find myself doin this....quite abit).

now Rod, if this was already on your "TO DO LIST", Thats Awsome! but if not...please consider this.

TAADAAAAAAAAAAAA! i have a bunch more ideas where that came from ;)

Iv'e been watching you're videos for about three years now. Me watching videos is through Youtube. When I see a new video of yours pop up in my sub box, if the title interests me I watch it. There is no way in hell i'm coming here just to see you're videos. I'm subscribed to over 150 people and none of them get special treatment. I do believe this is a move for money. That also shows more and more every video you make. Doesn't really bother me but it's getting kind of dull. When you disabled comments it felt even more dull. Now it's over. If you want to go back to the "basics" then do reviews and unboxings that aren't dull and boring! Make them fun and full of life! Shoot them in one take! People can respect professionalism, but with out soul, there is nothing there. If you're videos were like that I would totally come here to watch them, but as it stands, I bid you adieu.

I think this is a good decision and I hope this turns out to be the best decision.

However, there is one thing really _really_ bugging me. It's YouTubers... not YouTuber's...

Anonymous

You just shot yourself in the foot if you stick to this decision man.. Enjoy the last 90% of your site's hits.

Anonymous

Exact same decision as you mate.

Anonymous

Business decision?

You mean you just want to grab more money from all the shit ass adverts on every Sq/Inch of space on every page of your site.

People aren't pissed because your not listing on youtube any more, they're pissed because like most people you've gotten greedy and are only in this for the money. It shows in every one of your reviews in the past year: They all cover the vaguest of points, they are very generic in that you basically just read what is on the retail box, there is no emotion (enthusiasm for instance) in your latest reviews which really does detract from your appeal and last but not least they are all scripted exactly the same (Do you have a template that has "Insert product name" and "Generic Fact" sections?

I, along with most of your viewers, detracted from watching your videos when we where forced to come here just to give you feedback, but I think that now you've just lost an even bigger chunk. Can you honestly say that you're not doing reviews on YT anymore for reasons OTHER than money?

Anonymous

Thanks for telling me. I just unsubscribed.

I've just subscribed to motherboardorg instead. Between that and linustechtips/NCIX I'm good. I've got enough sites to keep track off, youtube is youtube for a reason.

I couldn't care less about banning comments, but this is a step too far.

I hope it works out for you. Although I know it won't.

Bye :)

Anonymous

I used to love your work. I had a lot of respect for you because you were doing awesome reviews since lots of time.

After the comment censorship I was kinda upset but I was ok.. I subscribed to your site and participate at the forum.

After the first "written review" video I was very angry. But I decided to keep subscribed to your channel.
After this video well... goodbye Rodney!

If I search some video review I search on Youtube and then on the website of the reviewer to have more information about. I don't like to be forced to go to websites.

Please remember that business is not ALL.

Anonymous

Well Rodney, I'm not too sure you have thought this through too well. A lot less people are interested in your videos anymore as you can't comment. Not to mention that doing this will lose quite a bit of your fan base. I personally arn't going to go out of my way to come to your website to specifically look at these videos and I highly doubt other people will aswell. You shouldn't do this Rodney. You do make quite good points as to why you want to, I just doubt that as many companies will sponsor you for parts to review as you will be getting a lot less views.

I think its a good idea, there is more content here on your site, it gives us the ability to comment on the videos and vote in polls etc, and it makes sense since its 3dgameman.com where the bulk of the interactivity of the community occours not youtube

MaestroBLC,

Thanks for your concern, but I'm going to try it and take it from there. If it doesn't work out I can always revert back or try something else. One option that I might entertain is the idea of publishing my videos here first and then in a week or so release them on YouTube. But at this time, I'm unlisting all future videos. I'll be sure to keep everyone updated.

Listen Rodney, what you're doing is not a good idea. If you make your YT vids unlisted, and only put up vids telling you to go to your site to watch it, your viewership will significantly decrease. Most of your 3GM website users came from YT in the past couple years I assume. If you make your videos only available on your site, and people search for your review only to find out that they must go somewhere else, you're only gonna lose followers. People want to see the content right there, right then, not later on somewhere else.

Man, you are really doing it wrong! Facebook is free advertizing, is a tool to promote whatever you are doing and get known for it. You just need to find the right way to use it, maybe organizing events, I don't know... I cannot believe that you don't understand how it works. Disabiing the comments? Wrong! Youtube has a rating system for them that works fine... Unlisted videos? Are you insane? You are throwing away a great and hard-earned asset for your business. The web is changing, you have to change with it, your idea to get back to the basics is suicidal. I mean, who the hell needs your website as it is? The web does not work like this anymore: if you do not have traffic on your website is because the site is not attractive, not because of Youtube. Youtube is the reason why you still get the traffic you get. The future is social, you understood it earlier than most people and then you are the only one going backwards?! Really? This is your fault, not youtube's or youtuber's. Problem is even if you change your mind at this point you most probably already ruined it.

I'll give you some free advice right now, do what you want with it: get back the Youtube channel, with a revamped format, say you where joking, than invest 10k in your website, get a decent graphic designer, then integrate it with facebook connect and the social plugins. Then start asking on Youtube how you should improve it.wont be enough but is a good start.

Anonymous

maybe you should make an app for your website so when people use their phone to watch your video on youtube, they can also check ur website.... i know alot of people who use their phone or idevice to watch youtube.

Anonymous

It's only fair we go to your site, and this is a good decision on the business end in some ways and a sacrifice in others. So I do respect your decision for these changes, and those who don't should leave.

don4of4, You are missing the point. It's not all about YouTube hits, or how many YouTube comments I get or the YouTube subscribers, never was, dispute what you or others might think. It's about the 3dGameMan site, which is my home (and others) and foundation to all of what I do.

electricmayhemfan,

Welcome to the site and I loved your positve comment, very well said :) It's good to see that there are still people like you left in this world ;) There are more changes coming and they include my Rodney Reynolds channel and Rodney Reynolds site. I'll have more on that later.

"I like it and just registered to make my first comment after years of enjoying 3Dgameman.com. Some of us admire a businessman understanding where his revenue truly comes from, doing what he needs to while the freeloaders complain. I just unsubscribed from that motherboardsorg guy's channel because of his link bait today, he doesn't really care about Rodney he's just trying to benefit from some people being hysterically upset. Cynical, twisted son of a (insert crude words here), I have lost all respect for that hypocrite.
I know it's easy to have one's favorite video content in one spot, but be real, we have to go to plenty of favorite websites to read non-video content and be part of those communities' forums. Either Rodney's reviews are worth bookmarking his site in your browser to check out FOR FREE once in a while at this site, or they're not. It's your decision.
Satisfy the core of your customers, and the rest will take care of itself. That core is here. If Rodney's wrong about this new direction, he can always try something else, why attack someone for something so trivial? The world has not ended. How many of you whiners even bothered to buy a tshirt? You think anyone cares what your comments would be on YouTube? I was relieved when he turned those off. I watch to hear his take on gear I might consider buying, not read what viewers, many of them unable to *think* let alone write knowledgeably, think about it. Come here and post in the forums if you have something worthwhile to contribute. People here will appreciate it. ~electricmayhemfan"

-_- Really? This is a good business decision? Without YouTube, your not going to get many NEW viewers. Sorry but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZViQ68__fA is right. Regardless of your decision, you'll see my point eventually when you hits drop.

Hey bud, I'm not going anyway, at least not yet. I'm still going to be doing videos/videos reviews, but they will be unlisted. And I might make them public on YouTube after a week or so. So don't think that I'm closing up shop. When I close up shop I'll be the first to let everyone know. LOL

Well it will be sad to see you go GameMan, me and my mates understand why you are doing this but of course we wish you wouldn't but you mind is set and nothing can be done about it unless you do change you're mind but i hope you know you are respected on YouTube by many, even if you have disabled comments (Ill admit that something that i hated but it's just comments)

Speaking about Elric he's a good guy and i'm guessing he means no i'll thoughts to you but i guess he's just sad that you won't be posting any more videos.

Seems like there is a lot of stink about my decision to unlist my videos on YouTube. So, I'm going to do a poll later tonight about it. And if the response is great enough, I might reconsider or at least post the video on the site a few days before making them public on YouTube. Stay tuned.

Mr.Reynolds please don't do this. FOR GODS SAKE DON'T. I have been watching your reviews through youtube since it started, please don't hurt your fans by doing this.Bring back the comments, bring back the Rodney "3DGAMEMAN" Reynolds that we all loved.

Rodney, you may want to take a look at this. Motherboards.org think you're crazy and he made a video about it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZViQ68__fA

Anonymous

You can get people to come to your site, you don't have to do this. I don't unsubsribe you yet, as I hope you'll eventually make your videos NOT unlisted and enable comments and stuff when your view count drops like crazy. I'm really sorry, but YouTube users just can't handle changes like these. Strange thing, that you didn't disable ratings yet so we can see how many people dislike this announcement on YouTube.

Really, Rodney, we all love and support you, but announcements on YouTube just won't make it.

Oh and one more (probably important) thing: I think that there are a lot of people who found your videos like me, typing in some hardware's name into the YouTube search field. As your videos won't show up there anymore, you'll probably not get any new subscribers instead of the ones you lose now. Pretty sure you don't want that to happen.

Peace out, I hope you'll change your mind.

ps. Even motherboards.org is talking about you going crazy now

Anonymous

Sorry man but I'm unsubscribing from your youtube. I love your videos and I do understand why you're doing this. But I liked being able to watch these videos on youtube even if I couldn't comment at least it was all centralized. I say that because I already check several sites in my daily routine often more than once, meaning getting to see your videos was a part of checking my youtube subscriptions. And now I feel it would be just another out of the way thing that wouldn't get my full attention. Maybe if I'm in the market for some new hardware I will come check out your site but in the meantime goodbye to you and the awesome community you have going on here and good luck. And once more to stress it I did really appreciate your videos because not only were they great reviews of hardware they even taught a few things heck there were even some laughs in them, so thanks again for doing what you did.

I think you should leave them listed because we have subscription boxes which is much easier and faster to check for many peoples content and some of us just don't have time to visit everyones website on a daily basis. Now we still come to your site to posts comments so why don't you listen to your viewers and do the small thing we want. After all 3dgameman wouldn't even exist anymore without us.

"Tivon, I guess we are from a different generation, although I don't believe anyone with anything to do is hanging around on YouTube day and night . The only videos I watch on YouTube are ones that might show up when I do a Google search. I personally have no problem, let's say for example, going to egadget to watch a video or any other site that has interesting content. I don't get mad because it's not on YouTube. I guess it's different for hardcore YouTubers." -3dGameMan

We definitely are from another time it seems, but so is YouTube. For me, YouTube is a place for watching popular viral videos. I use it as a free place for hosting whatever random video project I'm working on. There is not much money in YouTube unless you're ultra Popular, and lets face the facts here as 3dGameman is a "review business" and not a "Double Rainbow." As it stands now, my vision of 3dGameman has always been more of a place about Technology and Personal Computing Hardware, however I would like to see more gaming content mixed in. When I think about buying a new computer part, my first action is normally to search Google, not YouTube. Unfortunately for YouTube, most of that content also comes with a lot of useless trolling and ever since Google bought out YouTube years ago very little has changed and in many ways lost some of its innovative magic.

Zach, can we have a working Quote option or a real reply in this part of the website?

Are you saying that you are leaving YouTube completely? Abandoning YouTube entirely would be a mistake. It was because of YouTube that I discovered your content! Yes, there are trolls on YouTube. The same thing, however, could be said about this website considering that you allow users to post anonymously. Anonymity changes people's behavior drastically from how they would normally act.

If you are at all interested in human psychology, I would recommend picking up Philip Zimbardo's The Lucifer Effect: Understanding How Good People Turn Evil.

Well, I couldn't care less anyway. To be honest, all I see from your video is mostly computer case, there's hardly any graphics card review. Whenever I see your video in my sub box, I usually click the "x" every time because I don't care about the case and I don't want to waste my time watching it, Beside, I got SOOO many other youtube subscription that's more worth watching than your video.

weanus (not verified)

Hi Rodney -

I support and understand your decision regarding your YouTube videos.

From a management standpoint, keeping up with just the 3dgameman.com website is a job in itself let alone managing rodneyreynolds.com, Godem Online and your consulting/ISP business. You do not need YouTube piled up on top of this as well.

From a business standpoint, it makes sense to focus on what is the most profitable for you. While YouTube can attract a lot of viewers, it does not drive revenue. Website revenue in turn allows you the time and resources to produce reviews and professionally manage the website.

From a personal satisfaction standpoint, well this is the baby you built and it is about what makes you happy and satisfied. If pulling the YouTube listings makes sense then so be it; after-all, who are we to judge.

The website has evolved over the years and has a loyal and interactive community that continues to grow. Significant changes have occurred over the years that have allowed us easier access along with an enhanced website experience. The information you provide through your reviews is invaluable and generally speaking, not found anywhere else on the Internet.

I have noticed a few negative comments about your decision and what one must realize is that these people are not your dedicated base. Most have "anonymous" as their user names and instead of engaging in meaningful dialog, they resort to negative comments and threaten not to come back or unsubscribe. These are exactly the kind of people that proliferate and are the bane of YouTube's existence.

What I find ludicrous is how hard is it to make a bookmark for a website? Instead of taking the time to complain about the YouTube decision, one can use the time to organize and create some bookmarks of their favorite websites. A lot of people like Rodney Reynolds work very hard to maintain their websites and count on a loyal, dedicated and interactive community to stay viable.

Going back to basics is a good thing. As a businessman that operated multiple businesses simultaneously, I can attest that "more" is not better, "more" does not make you richer, nor does "more" make you happier. Personally, I find myself far happier and satisfied in life doing a few things great rather than many things in mediocrity.

Best regards from a loyal subscriber - Mike.

I totally feel the same way as you do, and I feel Rod will loose a lot of people cause of this, as I look for new videos in my YouTube subs first, and then If I feel like commenting, If comments are disabled, I will then come here to comment, just don't always have the time to go from site to site, working 2 jobs, and taking care of a family, etc.. Rod good luck, but your gonna piss a lot of people off for sure.
