"We got some numbers for Radeon HD 6970 in 3Dmark Vantage and the latest 2011 version. We know that this test is not real life based, but it still provides a nice reference. We have compared the 3Dmark data we acquired from a source with our own that we got on a similar configuration. In 3Dmark 2011 Radeon HD 6970 scores slightly lower than 8000 at entry settings while the GTX 580 scores 8700 in that same test. The runner up, GTX 570, scores slightly above 8000 while the GTX 480 is slightly below 8000." | more

The article being from fudzilla gives me hope that the card will do better once it's properly tested and documented.

lol AMD's fastest single GPU is never faster than nVIDIA's fastest single GPU.
I don't know why, but it's been like this since 3 - 5 years ago.

3Dmark Vantage and 2011 are not a good reference for real world performance. Especially because every card renders scenes differently. I do perfomance test myself from time to time on a PC that is filled with games, has rarely been defragmented and is crippled by al those drivers and stuff. This gives me a good idea on the performance of certain parts when given to the average customer.

@MrGreen The 6970 is a single GPU card. AMD's second-gen DX11 release will be the 6990.

The 6990 is what I'm hoping to replace my GTX 295 with but not sure it will make it for the holiday season.

I think it's because 3DMark 2011 doesn't test SLI/Crossfire yet.
