"Former Illinois State trooper Matt Mitchell was driving at 126 mph on Interstate 64 while emailing/texting his girlfriend on his phone. In his state, he crossed over the median and crashed head-on to another car, killing sisters Kelli and Jessica Uhl and injuring Kelly and Christine Marler, of Fayetteville. Mitchell sustained severe injuries to his leg. Mitchell was suspended with pay for two years on his $68,000 annual salary. After pleading guilty to criminal charges, Mitchell resigned from the state police. His guilty plea landed him 30 months probation. Now Mitchell is filing for worker's compensation, which could result in him receiving tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars, which are non-taxable." | more

Wow, they were in that bigger vehicle like an SUV or something and they died, and he survived in the Ford Crown Victoria? That's wierd. Anyway it's sad, teens died, he'll just get a slap on the wrist and that will be all. He sets a good example for the other drivers. NOT

Why is he still breathing? That should definitely be put to an end.

30 Months of Probation for 2 counts of manslaughter. That right there tells me the court system failed. Cop or no cop, the law is the law, but in this case the scales have been tipped over and on to the floor! Now he wants money for his negligent acts. If this was any one of us we would be sitting in jail right now. I hope the families sue!

I sleep fine at night knowing we are banning people who deserve it.  Tivon

Compensation!? Oh-f--... [No, I'm not trying to swear in this forum. I'm just having a hard time expressing my feelings by typing this.]

This is insane... I'd expect to see no compensation for him due to his actions. :(

It'd be nice to detect if the phone is near the driver seat and hte steering wheel so that the phone can be blocked while driving. Plus, why not have proximaty sensor that can detect if one hand is off the steering wheel and slow down the police cruiser by 50% if it's the case. Maybe facial recognition would be great. The cruiser could emit a 6.4 kHZ alternating warble/charp and can slow him down if he's over 100 miles an hour.
