BAD IDEA: Microsoft Might Buy Symantec

Quickly! Someone call Gates and tell him to come back before they ruin Windows! In my last news about "Intel Attempts To Justify Ugly Marriage" they bought McAfee. Now it seems that Microsoft feels the need to waste good money. If there is any truth to this story lets hope it was a misunderstanding because I would never buy Windows that comes with Symantec.

"It all started when Jefferies & Co. analyst Katherine Egbert stated in a Tuesday research report that the company could be worth $19-$20 a share to a buyer. She stated that a deal for the company was unlikely but added that investors could push the company to make high-level management changes. Quite how this turned into “Microsoft is going to buy the company” is anyone's guess. The suggestion that now Intel has bought McAffee it is open season on security companies does not really work out. Symantec is just pulling itself out of a marsh caused by the fact that its products had gained a reputation for slowing computers down. Its latest versions are a bit quicker, but it is facing a lot of inertia towards it. The last thing that Microsoft would want to be associated with is product that has a reputation for being slow." | more

a 4890? interesting why you would disable all the features. Last time i restarted my PC after an install was after installing microsoft office and also after photoshop. But they are massive programs. Most programs that ask you to restart is because their installers are old. Probably Vista or XP based. How often have you ignored a restart after installing a program and then used it? And how often did it work 100%? Probably most of the time.

Anyways this thread is not about Windows 7 but i just wanted to say people are not giving microsoft enough credit and its because they are so huge.

no offence but you obviously disable it all because your computer needs to be upgraded. compared to Vista, Windows 7 is lite and is Microsoft's best OS to date. I like it better then XP.

All in all, I think Windows DOES need to come with some sort of suite that protects you against viruses, spyware as well as have some sort of cleapup utility for garbage or duplicate files and a better firewall would be nice but i would not consider Symantec.

i was talking about the kernel and windows 7 should be faster a lot faster than xp but it isn't so much faster and have you ever tried linux its 100times better for installing and updating only major updates needs a restart
windows sometimes need a restart just for a normal program and for all drivers i mean wtf shouldn't they have made it that you almost don't need to restart as i told you it is still based on DOS only a bit advanced
and i havn't upgraded to 45 core because i descovered than 2011 will be an intresting year for cpus nd mine gpu is ok hd4890

Someone saying that Symantec's latest products are "a bit quicker" hasn't used them or been following benchmarks. Since 2009, NAV and NIS have been two of the fastest products on the market and, even during the bloat period, the Norton series of security products were always good at securing the computer.

Considering that, with very little effort, and upgrader can get a 3 computer license for NIS in the $0-10 price range, you might as well compare it to free products...all of which it beats on feature set and all of which it is far faster and lighter than.

Fear! Uncertainty! Doubt! FUD! Fudzilla!

Man...what do you expect? I'd expect this article to be completely false due to the fact that it's "Fud"zilla.
