Ottawa, Canada – (June 9, 2010) – Alia El Banna, Director and CEO of KIWI Choice, Inc, a third year PhD student and a nominee for Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100, decided to transfer her academic research into real life business, when she started her new venture; KIWI Choice. El Banna’s research draws links between very complex, yet fascinating topics — the multidimensional concept of "place," globalization and international marketing.
As a PhD student and instructor at the Sprott School of Business, El Banna orchestrated intensive research on relevant studies and general literature related to "place," with a focus on social, community and environmental psychology, marketing, sociology and geography. In addition, her keen interest in green products advanced her understanding of green market dynamics and helped provide her business with strong reliable green benchmarks. “The idea of introducing environmentally friendly consumer electronics has always been of interest to me,” says El Banna. KIWI Choice introduced its first product: KIWI U-Powered, a Solar and USB-powered portable charger for mobile devices.
“I am proud of our first product. It is definitely the most versatile, environmental, powerful and compatible portable charger on the market. You can basically charge it from any power source: the sun, laptop, computer, car, wall, or any USB outlet.” El Banna resides in Ottawa, Ontario, with her husband and their two children. She is able to successfully combine her responsibilities as a mother, an academic and a successful business woman. “I am proud to be a woman and to present a positive image that can inspire other women on campus.” El Banna always links business life and academia in her teaching as well. She believes it gives a broader vision to her students, if they can bridge the two worlds.
“KIWI U-Powered is the start, but the next step is to diversify our product line and to focus on choosing environmentally friendly components for all our products.” KIWI Choice will also focus on customizing its marketing and services to address the international markets.
