if i upgrade my mobo and cpu to another brand do i have to reinstall windows and will my old windows product key work?
Yes you will need to reinstall Windows. The product key will work if you have a retail key but OEM keys will not work, however you may try giving Microsoft a call and they may let you reactivate it.
if i have a copy that came with computer from like say hp is that oem?
Yes, all the copies of Windows that come bundled with pre-builts are OEM.
will my recovery discs work as a windows install disc?
Yes, the recovery disks should contain the Windows OS along with other software that the manufacturer decided to bundle the disks with.
Windows will be saved on you HDD/SSD drive, so you can switch anything you want to except the drive. The only thing you need to do is detect the drive in the BIOS.
You do NOT have to reinstall windows as the Operating system (OS) is installed on your hard drive where all your other files are. You just have to make sure you properly connect everything for them to detect one another. Some people say one should update the BIOS of the motherboard but this is risky and one should only update it if the motherboard is giving trouble . Otherwise everything is fine to go. Plug your hard drive in to get all your files and for it to boot up.
