was wondering how may level of grit sand paper is needed? Do you really need to go thru 600-800-1000-1500-200-2500 grit sand paper? Are the higher grit sand paper helping in cooling performance or is it jut for mirror shine?

thanks. Hope Rodney sees this.

Lapping a cpu really does give much gain in temp reduction. It very easy to damage your cpu. 600-1000, or 1200 grit is fine. It has to be wet dry paper. Circle is bad. Straight ahead 10 times, then change direction of your cpu. It can take a couple of hours to this. The surface of your cpu has to be perfectly flat.

The guy only had a net drop of 1c. Imo, just not worth it.
