Most ISPs will allow you to view bandwidth usage for any given month on their websites.

Monitoring is best done via the router but you have an old one. Perhaps the bios of the linksys rom could be flashed over to dd-wrt that provides more options for net usage stats and netstat utility's.

Log in to the router using a Web browser. The URL is http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://www.routerlogin.net or http://www.routerlogin.com

The Login is admin and the password might be admin or password or 1234, or something else in your documentations.

Once logged in, Look at the Left hand side, Advanced > Traffic Meter > Enable Traffic Meter, and those options you might need to search google on because I never use them. Good Luck!
