Hey guys, I'm trying to help out an uncle of mine, who is trying to hook up his PCthe with the WiFi from his workplace. He's the manager there so there's no problem he was told it was fine. His house is about.. a good 25-30 yards away. Currently has a NetGear WG111v3, which doesn't reach. It shows it only pick up about 8-12% and mostly looses signal all the time. What Wifi Adapter do you guys recommend? Doesn't matter if its USB or PCI, as longest he can reach the signal.

Well I went ahead and bought an Alfa 1000mW off amazon. Had never heard of it, just went with the reviews from buyers. Now I gotta wait till it arrives to see if it does the trick.

Wow really impressed by this adapter, and just to be correct it's an Alfa AWUS036H 1000mW. Just go it in today, tested it on my computer before I went to my uncle's house and set it up there. The only thing he was upset about is that, he paid 40 for the NetGear WG111v3, which is how much is Alfa was. He was getting about 8%-12% with his NetGear WG111v3, and now gets 80%-85% this is no joke. Here are some pics I took from my place with his NetGear WG111v3 and the Alfa AWUS036H 1000mW.

Maybe it's just because the Alfa has a large antenna and the Netgear is just a dongle with a build in antenna?

Some dongles have a connector so you can screw an antenna onto it.

ok, i just read this post about the wi-fi and he lives 20-30 yards away. and wants to get the wi-fi from his work to his home.

theres a couple things that was not mentioned, like does his PC have pci or a pci-e slot for adding adapters.

here is what i used to get wi-fi ( wireless ) from a factory before i moved to a new home.
the factory was about 1 block away from were i at at the time. just over 75 feet. not to far i know, but the adapter that i used was good enuff to pull in around 3 bars, i still have this adapter hooked up to a my old PC, now im around 175 feet from the factory, and it still gets a fair connection to there wireless/ aka Wi-Fi connection.

both have Detachable 2dBi Dipole Antenna, for his distance this should do the trick
by using the card he has right now, use a outside Antenna.
like the MOTOROLA ML-5299-HPA1-01R Omnidirectional Antenna
with this one or any out side Antenna really all you will need to get is the connectors, these can be found at radio shack and other place`s.

just connector on the Antenna is bigger then what is on the PC adapter card so you will need to get a reducer connector, in order to make the drop down. the connector should run you no more then a couple bucks, to do it.

should like a bunch to spend, might be, but it will be better then spending time and doing searching around find a new card that will pull from over 500 feet away. and have a crappy signal still. hope this trick and information helps.
