My current laptop has a measly 2.0 Ghz dual core CPU and i was wondering what i need to know about upgrading it. I am mainly looking for a better frame rate on Source games like TF2 and L4d2(Tf2 runs ok but still lags with 14+ players and i really want to buy L4D2 but the first ran terrible on my laptop.) The only thing i really know about upgrading CPU's is knowing the socket type. Are there any other factors involved, or is it even possible to upgrade a laptop CPU. My Laptop is a HP Pavilion dv7-1175nr running windows 7 pro. It has 4 Gigs of DDr2 Ram and has a nividia 9600M GT graphics card. CPU is an Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo T5800 Socket P(478). Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
It is possible but difficult to do, even for experienced techies.
Even if you were to upgrade your CPU for just gaming, you wouldn't get much of a framerate increase because graphic intensive applications like games rely on a fast video card more than the CPU.
Upgrading notebook memory or drive is one thing, but a CPU... Most don't bother because of the time and possible issues that could arise. Much better to sell your current notebook and buy another one.
Thanks for your seggestions i'll have to look into getting a better laptop or going for a desktop, the problem with buying a desktop is my situation where my parents are divorced and i need the portability of a laptop to go between households; however desktops are much more affordable. Thanks once again
