Hi. I have a question for a particular scenario. Say your pc was infected. but previously before it got infected you made system image of ur pc and also other backups. You also had you windows disk. If i started up recovery console via booting from the windows 7 disc, i could recover using system image. My question though, is in order to do that i need to plug the external hard drive with all the backups into my pc. Is there any way that it could get infected, even if i was running recovery console booted from the win 7 disk?
There are many ways of disinfecting a PC.
There is really no right way I mean they all work but some are more effective.
I have spent literally sometimes a couple of hours disinfecting a PC. If this was the case then you have to decide should you backup your data to a temporary storage which should take about 30 minutes. Then should you redo your computer which should be around 1 hour...
That is more efective than trying to get rid of a DAM virus that just won't go away. Along with that sometimes you have to deal with SPAM, trojans, worms...etc.
So to answer your question NO the recovery console should work just fine. There is also an option to go back in time to choose a date when the PC was ok.
I don't think you got the question cvasquez.

Because you boot from the installation disk, your infected installation is not running and nothing on the harddrive or ssd wil be executed.
The only thing that's running is the software from the dvd, so no worries about infecting your external drive.
Thanks a lot guys. Sorry for my late reply. i forgot to check this thread. I really like your idea on system restore.
