I know this socket is old but has there ever been a dual core processor released for the socket 478. I know that there was pentium 4 which had HT but that is not the same as having 2 physical cores. I am asking that because I used to have a socket 478 board.
i am pretty sure there is not a Dual core for socket 478
No, remember Socket 478 should not be confused with Socket P which uses 478 pins as well.
The socket P is used on some laptops I think, would for example a socket P cpu physically fit into a socket 478 motherboard?
It would fit and have the same number of pins (478) but where the Socket 478 differs from the Socket P is voltage, they are not electrically pin-compatible. Won't work.
What could accually happen if a socket P cpu was placed in a s478 mobo?
You could damage your CPU, motherboard or both.
