In the days of digital gaming services like Steam,GOG.com,Origin,greemangaming etc, I asked one question myself again and again, Why a new released digital game priced same as the retail copy ? As I understand, digital distribution cost much lesser than the traditional brick n mortar model. So far I never bought any new released game in digital version, Steam Sales are the way to go for myself. What is your take on this.
The issue is with the vendors and the retail companies they do business with. With most new software, if not physically delivered (e.g. digital download) was cheaper, this could potentially hurt the business of companies that sell the in-box copies because we all know that what is cheaper draws more attention. The vendor makes the same amount whether it is physical or download, so offering a discount on any avenue hurts their profits.
It all comes down to everyone wanting a fair shot at making money.
eire1274 is correct, but Steam has some crazy deals from time to time :)
as a consumer I too want to pay a fare amount for a fare product or service
