Hello everyone this is my first time posting and I have a very important question. I recently bought a new monitor and it is better then my big old CRT television and I was wondering if I could use this TV tuner with my PC and if it would work with a Charter Cable line that only uses their base channels nothing about channel 76? If I need to reexplain it I would gladly but that is the best I can come up with. Your comments are appreciated.
Well, it is USB, so its just a matter of drivers and software for a PC. I don't know if it will work with Charter Cable.. sounds like it might not without some mods.
Do you know the kind of encryption Charter Uses because I did some looking on Wikipedia and it said most cable company's use QAM encryption.
Well, if you are using the outputs from the cable box that would normally go to the TV, then the answer is yes, it would work fine because the Cable-to-TV line has been unscramble for the TV to work. But if you use the cable line leading into the Cable Box then the answer is no.
Ok I apologize for making that confusing. What I am going to do is use the cable that isn't plugged into the cable box and plug it into that TV tuner stick. So what your saying is that using it with no cable box it will work and using it with a cable box it won't work? Correct? And thanks for your help.
Ummm.. I'm lost.. lol. it's the other way around I think. You need the cable box to descramble the channels, doing it like this is if you are using the this TV tuner for the PC as nothing more than just an input for the Monitor. But changing channels and stuff would have to be done from the Cable Box. This is why I think it's not going to work because using the Raw cable line into this TV- tuner device is probably not going to be able to unscramble the Cable to watch TV on your computer.
Oh ok so then how much would I be talking about spending here. I am not interested in spending a ton of money.
The last time I used a Monitor as my Cable TV, I had a All-in-wonder card. Now that everything is digital and not analog I'd don't what will work honestly. I don't have cable anymore, the internet is my TV.
Ok well thanks for all of your input I guess what I can do is I just realized that my uncle works for charter so I can ask him about it. Thanks once again for your help.
When you find out, come back and post a followup. :)
It's the same with Comcast, so it's not just Charter.
So apparently my uncle doesn't know what encryption that charter uses to encrypt their cable line. I guess what his job was to supervise the workers that ran the cable and now he has an office job. So sorry guys he doesn't know but if i get that USB TV tuner I will surely let you guys know if it works with charter.
look at a blackmagic !
Blackmagic is just a good capture card.. why look at it?
I am still looking for a TV tuner card that is supported by Charter. What i might end up doing is call charter and talk to them and see if they have any cards. If not then I will ask them for a TV tuner box that has an HDMI port so I can hook it upto my monitor and watch it from there. Not a big deal all I want to do is replace my big CRT TV with my current monitor. I don't really want to spend that much money. If you can find me a TV tuner for 60 dollars or less that supports charter's cable encryption then I will be happy. Thanks for your help.
