Hi, I'm looking for a headset and a soundcard for my gaming and movie.

I have a GA-P55A-UD3P motherboard.

I got my eye on a Razer Tiamat 7.1 and ASUS Xonar Phoebus ROG.

What do you guys thinks? My budget is around 400$ (+-200$).

Would really like a beef 5.1 or 7.1 Ture surround.

Thanks in advance.

I personnally have tried the Megalodon and i was not really impress... the Tiamat 7.1 isn't USB and this is night day on sound quality !! I tried them 1 week ago to change my Siberia V2 and really like them, every sound is pin-point, great bass but lacks of mid and high (for music) so i'll stay with my Steelseries Siberia V2 for music listening... was also looking toward a 5.1 Turtle Beach Ear Force Z6A when i bought my Siberia but in my opinion the 5.1 was good for game, but far away for music and i do both so that's why i choosed the Siberia in that time... Also Tiamat and Z6A both needs an USB powered connection to supply enough power to it's drivers and i already have an headphone amp on 3.5mm jack so...

Also, 7.1 Tiamat vs my siberia was not night and day, Emulated 7.1 on 2.0 is still pin point and sound clearer In music listening (i listen to Rock/Metal) due to larger driver i suppose (on a xonar D2X, on shitty onboard it's really crappy sound)

The Z6A is about 100$ 5.1 true surround and is almost equals to the Tiamat 7.1, so if you want to save some bucks, go for that, however you can't wrong with either !!! Also you can look (for music if that's an option for you) to the Sennheiser PC360 but it's much more costly...

PS: The Xonar Pheobus is pretty much the most for now so no doubt you should get this one and pair it with a great headset !!! Also, all people hearing is different so i suggest to tried them if possible to ensure they will suit you ;)

98% Of people under 25 surround their minds with rap music, if you're part of the 2% that stayed with rock, put this in your signature, ROCK IS BETTER!

Well, even though you don't seem to be leaning towards going for the Turtle beach, i would highly recommend that you DO NOT!!! I could go on and on as to how bad they are and how poor the customer service is but all i will say is that it was awesome for about a week, then it started to fall apart!

As far as my recommendations go, i don't have any for the sound card or alternatives that i personally have tried! However, i would suggest that you check what kind of power supply you have! Cheaper computer power supplies have low quality 'Filtering' this essentially means that the power is not very 'clean' and all that unfiltered power will be heard in your head in your headphones

the ASUS Xonar Essence STX Virtual 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Express x1 Interface 124 dB SNR / Headphone AMP Card seems really legit.. only problem with that is that I'll want to have a better headset if I ever get a soundcard like that lol..

For soundcard, cheap way: Xonar DG (PCI) or Xonard DGX (Same card card but in PCI-e bus) found at 25-30$ as well as any X-fi in that range and for more quality, the Xonard DX (80$) and for more and more quality the Essence or Pheobus line but they're in the 200$ range...

PS: never heard about Tutle beach issue like that but i'll take that in my future reccommendations...
