You will need a motherboard based on the X58 chipset which supports triple channel DDR3.

each set of DIMMs is a channel, most AMD motherboards are dual channel meaning they have two sets of DIMMs, making 4 memory slots. my motherboard has dual channel (slots A1, A2, B1, and B2). an intel motherboard has up to 3 sets of DIMMs totaling 6 slots

No you can't use triple channel for even the latest AM2+/AM3 boards because they support dual channel only. Currently, the only boards supporting triple channel are the Intel X58 boards for LGA1366 CPUs.
