Last night I read the full Hardware Can. preview of the GF100(Fermi)and it looks like one heck of a beast-
http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/27892-nvidia-s-geforce-gf100-under-microscope-17.html
My main concerns are-
Is the price going to be realistic?
I am far too used to Nvidia poorly pricing their stuff so It would be nice if this was not a bank breaker.
Is it going to be mass produced in time?
Nvidia should try to avoid what happend with the 5xxx's i.e way too much demand and not enough products.
And finally how is ATI going to respond to this new beast? Try the same thing and change the architecture considering that they are still using 2000's archi?
The price has to be realistic. Or else it won't sell.
Expect it to cost as much as a few non-existent IBM T22 laptops from 1998.
ATI will release their 6000 series come Q4 this year, so then we'll see some sparks flying.
How does Nvidia poorly price their products? Their prices are more or less in line with the competition.
Of course the card is going to be a beast but I don't believe it will be priced competitively.
card will be a beast and probably own the 5870 - but it wont be priced nicley. ATI will probably come out with a cypress refresh (5890). ATI will still be king cuz of price:performance aka best bang for the buck
The desktop version (gaming) will not be as impressive as most people might think. its marginally better then the 5870 and will most likely cost $200 more then ATI's latest.
Sala-Gtx 280 costing 50-100 more than a gtx 275/4890 despite having LESS fps? Gtx 260 costing $200+when over the summer I could find one for $170 and 275 now being ~$225. Gtx 295 costing 480(now its down a bit) dollars almost a year after it was released even though 5870 was $370-400.
OH AND BTW! SPECIAL SURPRISE-I AM SELLING THE MORE FUNCTIONAL LABTOP (1999) FOR ONLY $20 SO IF YOU WANT YOU CAN SNAG A NON-EXISTANT LABTOP FOR CHEAP! I am upgrading all the way to a beastly Toshiba Tecra s2(oh my!!!) with the powerful Nvidia 6600GO and Mind-boggling DX9!!!
Deus- According to all benchmarks so far with beta-drivers the Fermi trashes a 5870 by 40-60% but we will see in 2 months.
hmmm why haven't i seen those benchies?? i seen a far cry video showing some FPS numbers and i wasn't impressed at all. my 5870 (stock) gets just as high on max settings. but im running on 1680x1050 res. i don't remember what they were running on...
check the becnhies in the article I linked to in first post
