In the next couple of month i'm probably going to make a new gaming rig. My budget is about 1500$ (In denmark the prices are about 25% + compared to the US). I'm leaning towards the intel i7 and nvidia 460 or greater, but i am open for suggestions. Please tell me your suggestions.

Thanks in advance :)

Micro Atx - Lan party ready
NZXT Vulcan + All optional fans
Asus Rampage Gene 3
6gb DDR3 Dominator
GTX 460 or greater
Sata 6.0 compatible harddrives
Cooler Master Silent Modular - 600w or greater
i7 930 or greater

Mid size ATX NZXT Tempest Evo
Full Tower Case - Cooler Master HAF X

If you have the money and are going NVIDIA and want to try 3D in the future, invest in a 120hz Monitor or HDTV.

If ur willing to go amd

Phenom 955 Black Edition(3.2ghz but u can always OC)
Gskill flare 2x2gb DDR3 1800
Gigabyte GA 890GPA-UD3H
Veloci raptor 150gb
Lian Li Lancool PC-K62R1(completely tool-less case; even mobo screws are thumb screws; red powder coated interior; has a hold down bracket for psu so no screws needed there)
Seasonic X650 gold 650watt psu
Samsung DVD burner lightscribe
Thermalright venomous X RT cpu cooler

So u can spend the spare change on 2 hd 5770 and cf, or go nvidia which ever u prefer. FYI I only paid $250 for 2 hd 5770 so keep an eye out when it goes on sale.

Qmicra v2F = Core i5 2500k ~ ASUS P8P67-M PRO ~ G.Skill DDR3 1600 2x2gb Ripjaw X ~ GIGABYTE GV-R687OC HD6870~ G.skill Phoenix Pro 120gb ~ Creative Titanium HD ~ Killer 2100 NIC ~ Seasonic 650watt gold ~ 3TB storage

I'm leaning towards El_Gatos suggestion. I'm at alot lan parties so a case like the NZXT Vulcan case would be nice.

Firstly i have two question: How big is the performance difference between a 930 and a 950? (The price difference is ony about 20$) And what graphics card/cards should i get if i want the performance of a gtx 480 or a 5870? And what brand should it be?

Thanks :)

you do realize the AMD rig is $300 cheaper than intel one in the US so with that extra 300 u spend on other things.

just change to a MSI 890GXM-G65 AM3 AMD 890GX matx board instead of the gigabyte. U can put that board in the vulcan it a matx with 2 pci e slots.

if u were in the US ur 1500 budget would be 1125, say u bought his intel suggestion u spent 1075 of the 1125 u would have leaving u with $50 for graphics, if went the amd rout u would have 350 for graphics.

Don't forget u said "(new)complete rig" DVDrom, hdd, psu, case, mobo, ram, graphics. If it was a rebuild and using spare parts from ur previous build it would be different.

The 5870 and 480 are great cards, the perform exceptionally, but the 5870 is cheaper, and supports eyefinity. But you probably won't be setting up eyefinity at any lan-parties so,if you can afford a 480, you might just want to get one of those.

Some good brands are EVGA, XFX, Sapphire, Msi And Asus.
XFX has a good warranty too.

The reason why i think i am going with intel is because i thought about buying one gtx 460 and later on get another one for Christmas. Amd does not support sli.

So far on my list is: Intel i7 950, NZXT Vulcan, Asus Rampage 3 Gene, Corsair Dominator, Hdd, Drive, Power supply and one gtx 460. That is about 1500$.

If ur planning to make it around Christmas u should just wait another month when intel sandy bridge and AMD bulldozer get released. Prices will probally drop.

Sli and crossfire is good but when games don't support it don't scale well.

Corsair Dominator- Idk if corsair stop doing the cheaping out on the ram chip for the dominator. I know a lot of my friends switched to another brand because of that. Most of them now use G skill, crucial, ocz. I also hear patriot sector 5 or 7 ram is good. You may want to try those instead of the corsair dominator(then again its only a suggestion)

Sounds like a great idea.
I like the denominators my self and that is for sure in my next build.

How do you think the new intel Sandy Bridge and the Amd Bulldozer will compare to an i7 950 in games? (Both price and performance)

I think i'm going to stick with the Corsair Dominator ram.

Where i have many doubts, is whether to buy a Gtx 460 or a Hd 5850 and get another one later on and what brand it should be. I won't be using a 3d screen or have multiple screens.

In case someone is wondering, this is my first build. I've bought another rig about 1½ years ago. Back then i did not know that much about computers. Since then i've got a lot more interest, and this time i think i should make one my self. That's actually why i'm asking you because i don't want anything to go wrong.
