hello every one. my first real computer was a gaming lap top. and i have noticed that these 2.5 inch hard drives make much less noise then their 3.5 counter parts. i would like to know if they both performe the same in seek time and data transfers or not. because i plan on building a gaming desk top and putting a few disks in raid 0. and i would like to make it as quiet as possible but for the same performance. any help would be great.
no, 3.5" HDDs are generally faster than laptop harddrives, most of the time the 2.5" HDDs are quieter because they have a lower RPM, but noise isnt really that much of an issue, Western Digital harddrives are pretty quiet for the most part especially if you go with a Caviar model, but the raptors will make some noise
thanks so much. but what about if they are both 7,200 RPM ? are they still faster then the 2.5 ?
I don't think you would see much of a difference. The only 2.5" drive should you desire in a desktop is an SSD. Stick with the 3.5"; choose a Caviar Black they are reliable and perform well.
