Hey guys, first time poster here. I have just begun planning on building a new computer, but i need help with choosing a GFX card,
The Nvidia 480 has been said to outperform the HD 5970, but i cant get a definite answer on which one is better.
the computer im going to build will be lasting me awhile and im planning on building it in the coming months, i was just wondering. what would be a better Card the 480 or the 5970/5870. Price isn't a great issue but if one product is just barely better than the other at a greater price i would go with the cheaper one.
And since it will be awhile before i build my computer, is anyone aware of any new emerging technology, For e.g Nvidia improving the 480 or Ati coming out with a new card. the computer im building is going to be for games, mostly BC2 and WoW but i still would like to have a top notch comp incase i decide to use it further than just games.
i saw this video on youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQa97-ApWvc&feature=channel
which instantly convinced me to get the 480 but then the comments said it was a biased test and things like that, i would really appreciate it if someone could provide me with a proper comparison of the 480 and the 5970 to help me make my decision.
Best choice on the market right now is a 5870. Both the 480 and 5970 are more powerful but unless you have multiple 30 inch monitors you CAN NOT use their potential.
A 480 DOES NOT outperform a 5970 in current games. The reason it beats it in the "heaven benchmark" is that the benchmark is pretty much pure tessellation. A 480 can do tes., AA, and AF without slowing down much but ATI cards get bogged down when the settings are cranked up. Unfortunately however no current game utilizes these advanced settings and none really will for some months to come. In the long run a 480 may be better but for at least a year, the 5970 is king.
Thank you so much for the speedy response and clarification :D, looks like il be getting the 5870 both good in price and performance :D once again thanks
In all honesty, that was a good choice. Graphics have (temporarily) outpaced game development, and you can spend a fortune on something you well never drive hard (like that Ferrari that just drives to the grocery store twice a week).
I'm still using an ATi HD x4680, and am just now seeing software that is needing a little more.
