Hi, I am very unfamiliar with PC motherboards and what is better for what, and in which situations. I am a gamer, and i was wondering what my motherboard's situation in terms of quality and whether i should look into getting a new one or not.

In device manager it tells me i have a ACPI x86-based PC
I read somewhere that some video cards cant run on certain motherboards, so AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series is my video card in case you need to know.

Also, if you could advise me in terms of CPU i have an Intel(R) Core(MT) I5 CPU [email protected] GHz

I am currently running 32 bit windows but i will be upgrading to 64 bit, i don't know if that makes a difference.

Thanks.

i would upgrade to an Intel i5 3570k and a Z77 motherboard Micro Center has the 3570k on sale for $149 right now. as for motherboards i would suggest Asrock Z77 Extreme4. also i would go with Windows 7 64bit over Windows 8. your 6800 graphics card should do fine. if you wanted to you could buy another one and crossfire. just make sure you have a quality power supply.

You dont know me but that's the way i like it!

Most likely, your motherboard will support the video card. With PCIe most of the issues are long gone.

TeeBlack is right that your processor may be somewhat underpowered for an HD 6850 or 6870, depending on the software.

For comparison, I'm seeing a MAX 90% load on a like-powered CPU and an HD 6670 on a PCIe 16X 1.0 (the card is spec'd at 2.1), showing that either the slow slot or the CPU is providing a bottleneck and not allowing the GPU to fully saturate. However, this machine does very well on most games, and only the current generation is starting to slow it down.
