Yes, P55 boards support CF but not SLI.

I would go AMD because of the usb 3.0 and sata 6gbs are native on the board. Pick a AM3 board and CPU. AMD will also be changing socket to AM3+ but unlike intel u can still use ur AM3 cpu in it.

Intel keeps changing socket a lot with 755, 1156, 1366 and soon there will be 1156, 1355 all are not backward compatible with older cpus.

So if ur the type that wants to rebuild a whole new rig then intel is the best. But if u like to upgrade ur parts slowly then AMD is better. I have both a AMD and Intel and as far as i can tell its the same performance for the avg user.

Take usb 3.0 and sata 6gbs for example the amd user just needs to get a new board. while the intel if u going from 775 the user has to buy new cpu, ram, and mobo.

You got a great point. I was leaning towards AMD anyways, I already got a 5870, Just my best friend is a super intel fanboy, and keeps insisting I go intel, but unlike him, I don't have an endless PC budget, so, I'm going to do an amd build. Thanks, you helped me make my final decision.
