Hello, this isn't really me, but a friend of mine has an HD 6900 series card that crashes every time he restarts the PC. That is until it has been running for a full night without interruption, then it works fine again.
Anyone know what this might be?
It could be a number of things. Overclocking? High temps from heat output/dust? Drivers?
He doesn't overclock it, the temp stays at 50-60 degrees all the time and he updated his drivers yesterday, still crashed 2 times last night. The screen just goes black, and he has to use the power button to shut it off and on again.
Try running MSI Afterburner or a similar GPU stress test for 24 hours to check the card's stability at stock.
Sounds like a faulty card, can you try it in another system?
Other than not meeting the recommended minimum wattage for the video card or overheating (but it's not overclocked). Then I'd say if this is a brand new card in a known working system then just return it, RMA it, or get Refund ect.. and then buy something else.
List all of his components and maybe we can analyze a known compatibility issue.
