My gaming community has found a nice little game game to play Alganon.
Some might say "Look a WoW clone !", but to be honest that is a very uncreative term.
But here is a little more about the game.
Alganon is a Free To Play fantasy-based MMORPG that allows thousands of people to play together in a virtual world that features a rich history dominated by commanding deities, powerful weapons and armor, deadly magic, epic quests, ancient places to discover, the utilization of detailed tradeskills, and more. Designed from scratch and based in a uniquely created world, the goal in designing Alganon is to provide "Simple Gameplay with Unlimited Growth in a massive world of immersion and interaction."
Part of achieving this goal was to create a game that is easy for anyone to play, but also to build the game so that even the most skilled and hardcore gamer has the potential to grow beyond their expectations. A world where the casual and hardcore gamer alike can adventure, grow, and share their accomplishments with each other.
Our development team at Quest Online have designed everything from the ground up, tailored to feedback from the community about what you want to see in an MMO. While it can be difficult to select new games worthy of our time with so many prominent MMOs on the market, we have sculpted Alganon to be the game you do not have to dedicate all of your time to. We have implemented a system where your character evolves even when you aren't playing.
Adventure together with thousands of other players simultaneously.
Journey through an epic world filled with dungeons of different styles and depths.
Explore two massive continents and their huge capital cities, which serve as major hubs for the races inhabiting them.
Choose from two races and several classes - with more to come.
Encounter hundreds of interactive characters and monsters.
Learn the continuing story of Alganon by completing a wide variety of challenging quests.
Test your skills against other players with non-lethal dueling, or fight to the death against your faction's enemies.
Practice various trade skills to help locate reagents, make and enhance custom items, acquire wealth through trade with other players, and more.
A robust guild system with extensive management ability for community managers to establish rewards and ranks to suit their own tastes.
Enjoy hundreds of hours of gameplay with new quests, items, and adventures in static and instance areas.
Buy items, beef up your character etc using the Tribute micro-transaction system.
With much more to come, there has never been a better time to enter the world of Alganon.
Join Today, Play Forever!
Also they just added the PVP system that looks promising. It really reminds me of early Dark Age of Camelot.
Here is a brief overview of what is to come in this new PVP system
Three Phases of PvP
Phase I : Dueling and Open World PvP (Now Available)
Dueling allows two players, from the same or different factions the ability to fight each other without outside interference to either practice their PvP skills, or for bragging rights. Dueling is never fatal; the player who would normally be killed as a result of the duel has their hit points set to 1 instead, and submits to the other player. Both players receive a message that the duel is over and that one of the players is the victor then it is recorded into the history books of Alganon.
Open World PvP
Open World PvP is fairly simple, Battle to the Death. A player "flags" themselves for PvP and then can be attacked by similarly-flagged members of the opposing faction.
Phase II : Towers and Keeps (Coming Soon)
December's patch is chocked full of PvP goodness. To start off, we'll be introducing our open world PvP objective system with the integration of Towers throughout the lands. Capturing all three Towers in a particular area to provide a benefit to your entire faction while adventuring and defending that zone. We'll also be making available PvP armor sets and accessory items for every class for characters from level 10 to 50.
In the second part of phase 2 we'll be introducing Keeps into the world of Alganon. In each of the zones where we've placed a set of Towers, there will be a fortified Keep. The opposing faction will try to seize and control your Keeps. In order to take a Keep the enemy must first capture and hold all three towers in the zone. Once the enemy controls those towers, they can attack and try to capture your keep. Keeps must be captured in order, the most remote Keep must be captured before you can move further into your enemy's territory. If the enemy faction controls one or more of your Keeps, you must recapture it before you can press your attack on his lands. Once your faction controls all the Keeps in the world you'll be able to enter your enemy's home city and try to kill their leader. Successfully accomplishing this goal will result in a great reward for all those who participated in the final assault.
Phase III : Battlegrounds (2011)
We'll complete the first battleground for Alganon sometime in early 2011. Battlegrounds will be self-contained PvP instances with a team objective. Once a team satisfies their objectives they win the battleground and it closes. This is similar in many respects to the way many first person PvP shooter games work, the battleground is a "map" and the objective is to capture control points or objects (such as flags) to win. Participating in Battlegrounds will increase your Renown, and you'll be able to buy armor, weapons and accessories that will make you even more successful in PvP. The first battleground will be "Farms and Fields" where teams vie for control of resources. The winning team will not only receive additional Renown, but it will also have a positive effect on your faction's control of Towers and Keeps in the world.
And again, I invite anyone to come to our server and come join the fun.
Race: Kujix / Talrok
Alganon has drastically changed it has had its up and downs and has now gotten to a refined and polished point. The game back in December of 2009 is nothing compared to what it is now.
This indie company has changed a lot. And under a new president has rose from ashes, back to a game that is worthy of my time and money. I'm not a fan boy by any means, I just really support indie companies that listen to there customer base.
One problem this game does suffer and is being remedied is low population. But the president Derek Smart has promised an aggressive marketing campaign soon. He feels that the reason for not advertising at the moment. Was due to the damage, that was suffered by his predecessor. And the promises and unrealistic goals he (the predecessor) had made to investors and the community to some time to repair and make right.
But , I believe once the marketing begins and people see how different the game is. They will be excited to play a game with DAOC style PvP. Plus, I think this hybrid model of play they have works.
As it currently stands as a free player you get to experience the game up to level 30 with all the quest you can handle (limited to 10 in your quest log). And as a free player you cannot use server wide chat or local chat, but you do have access to the Help Channel, Say, Guild, Party and Whisper. Also you do not have access to in game mail so using the AH is a downer. Also you can not make a guild as a free player.
But if you get past that and realize that all of those things can be bought and are permanent your golden. It kind of like guild wars you buy the game and its free forever. Also if you buy said super pack you get all expansions and classes for free when they come out this includes level cap increases and such.
They have added tons of content and have overhauled the whole game to make it fun.
The only other bug that is minor that the guys in my guild have found is some mob pathing issues.
So if you like World of Warcraft style PVE, with raids and instance, but are longing for a game with Dark Age of Camelot PvP then look no further.
Looks promising, I tried a few MMORPG's like this and they were all very fun to play, the only problem I had with them was that not many people played them.
