Like zombie games?
Like Survival games?
Like realistic games?

Well if you haven't heard of DayZ the Arma 2 Survival mod, you might wanna take a look into it, I've been playing it for a good one and a half to two months and I've rather enjoyed my time playing it, its they most realistic zombie survival game or mod in this case out there, with a map 225km big, you'll find your self running to find the next village only to walk quietly so that you don't attract zombies attention, while you sneak into grab supplies to live through the next day, you must eat, drink and stay warm, repair cars, trucks and even boats, though have a plan because they do require gas to keep running and running into objects, might cause you to stop and repair, though the zombies AI is not perfect, they listen for you and explore areas where you happen to stop at for a second to take a drink or eat something so be careful at the same time, you can take advantage and use that empty bottle you found earlier and throw it some where to get zombies away from another area or if it happens to be night time, which is controlled by actual real life time zones, you can use flares to attract zombie's attention else where but this is just a few ways to get zombies attraction else where, though zombies are not blind, get too close and they'll see you, so traveling at night might be the better choice but if its hard for zombies to see, its going to be hard for you to see, so that's a choice you have to make, so if all that sounds nice, well you might wanna keep reading . . .

Well I've pretty much sugar coated it above, here is the down side, this game is in alpha and so there is not much more to just eating, drinking and looting so a lot of players resort to shooting and hunting down other players for their gear, its the easy rout and very few actually care to attempt to put real effort in the game, so often the survivor you come across will shoot you on sight, so this game isn't really for the lonewolf, though it is possible, chances are you'll die often when you first start playing the mod, other thing is, once you die, you start fresh, no gun, no gear, just your starter items and your gear you died with, is up for grabs were ever your body is, though you could get lucky and respawn some where near by though usually that's not the case.

The mod has updates weekly if not every other day so some times you have to sit and update for 5 to 20 minutes before you can start playing, the mod has some bugs here and there but nothing too bad, though hackers have hit servers as of late but in the past day or two it seems the mod devs have taken care of most of them.

Yea, I play this. It is quite fun but if you only play solo style it can get stale.

Theres nothing more frustrating than spending hours loading up an ALICE pack with tons of steaks, gear and medical supplies only get sniped by a guy with a sniper rifle who's hundreds of meters away and completely out of sight of the player.

Hopefully some updates will be added to aid people playing solo. For now, as you said team play is def the way to go if you can with this game.

yeah, for sure, I play with a group around mmm 20 to 30, so really things couldn't be much easier and fun on the mod, at least until they add some real features.

Looks fun, I've been watch streamers of people playing this mod. Rule #1, Trust No One! If they say friendly they might actually shoot you in the back. :)

Yeah, thankfully I play with a good size group of players that are not just another sheep following the masses and just shoot others on sight, even though it gets us killed some times, we do our best to give players we don't know the chance to be a friendly player, so actually attempt to thrive in the game, we actually try to recover what humanity once had.

We have a few members that go as far as finding other players camps and leaving them some nice gear, though when and if we happen to get taken down by a bandit, heh, we always have a group of at least three to five hunting down that bandit.

We prove that you can enjoy the mod with out hunting down other players or shooting the other players the second you get the chance.

I'm a forgiving player, I was shot at, thankfully they missed, I was in a deer stand a heard a bullet sing off like a foot away from me, then nothing, only to notice later the person that shot at me was camping behind a tree, rather poorly, in fact, I had a clear shot at them, they were waiting for me to come down the ladder, heh, told them I was friendly and not to shoot, to respond, even told them I had a clear shot of them but they sat there waiting, soon after they gave up and went to move off but karma decided to entertain me and as this person that shot at me just for the gear I had, went to leave another sheep (Bandit) comes out of no where and unloads a clip into them, killing them, I was laughing so hard. serves them right eh?

Now this new person had no clue I was in the deer stand, I once again, let them know, that I was in the area and was friendly but as expected, they tried to look around for me, no doubt this was just another sheep, if they had spotted me, they surely would of shot at me, though they for what ever reason didn't think to look in the deer stand, heh, I asked them to respond, even told them I had sights on them, they freaked and got behind a tree, though not knowing where I was they were clearly still in my sights, I said, if your friendly, please respond, I can see you next to that tree, they quickly moved to a bush, again, I could still clearly seen them and for the next few minutes they moved to two or three other spots but refused to respond and hoped that'd get sights on me, they never did, I even told them if I was a bandit, they'd been dead three times by now but in the end they ran off and I let them.

I thought it was so funny watching this second guy run around trying to get cover and I just point out where they are, telling them I could still see them, I was laughing the whole time.

It's interesting that the average survival time for most players is around 40-50 minutes, given the amount of players worldwide.

Sadly, its not surprising that with that many players online, that that number is so low, I've seen it as low as 23 minutes, the reason why its so low, is because you start off by the shore and there is only three areas worth heading to / your more then likely to come across when you don't know where to go and so a lot of the time these places have the highest traffic of players, both new and old, every one is afraid of loosing their stuff and really don't want to have to leg it all the way back, so its extremely rare to find someone in these areas that won't shoot or axe you on sight, so often a lot of people die in these areas, more so then most, though there is one other area that's not close to the shore that a lot of people die at and that's the NW Airfield, its where you'll find most of the nice gear in the game apart from the down hellis, so a lot of people head to this place but in all cases, there is a lot of players that like to be a D$&K and camp in all of these areas either inside them or just on the out skirts and sit there waiting for players to cross their path only to shoot them, often they don't even loot your body, they just do it to kill. So that's the mod's current biggest issue, apart from the current hackers.

I've been playing Day Z for 3 weeks, and I gotta say, it's pretty fun. I won't lie. I've been in the mood to kill some players ever since I've attained at least 1 of everything rare in the game (not at the same time of course). It's like that's what the end game really is, just hunting players.

Though I usually play on 1 server and I'm always friendly on that server (unless me and my group find a bandit, then, it's on).

The hacks are just getting awful though. Yesterday, everyone spawned in with nothing but what was in their basic inventory on my server. All we had was bandages, pistol ammo, a little food and water, and that's it. All weapons and backpacks, gone, just like that. Very frustrating.

I'm glad they removed the "respawn" button. Though they promised it would work if your legs were broken, which it doesn't.

Eh, it's an Alpha :|.

I bought Arma 2 just so I could play Day Z. Completely worth it :D.

Completely unrelated note: I love your avatar pic Kouta. Great anime.

Yeah, the DayZ devs have kind of shifted their attention from the Arma 2 CO DayZ mod version to the stand alone game, I've sent in a support ticket for my clan's server and they more or less sent me a copy and paste responds, it seems like there is only one person working on the hacking issue and all their doing is sending emails to Arma 2 devs, battle eye devs and one other I can't remember that they listed,

So sadly DayZ has pretty much gone down the drain with in the past couple of weeks, their last patch created graphical tearing and they've said they've banned many hackers but sadly, hackers are able to unban them selfs so its kind of hard to want to even play DayZ right now.

On top of that, dupping, even for those that don't dup items, the game often does it for them, then tents if you take something out and forget to save after, heh, tomorrow the same items will be back in the tent, thus dupping your items, thus making the game way too easy heh.

So for now, its a waiting game, waiting for DayZ devs to fix things, waiting for the stand alone game of DayZ gets release or when WarZ comes out, I'm still looking forward more so towards the Stand alone game DayZ but as long as WarZ isn't a 40 to $60 game when released, I just might pick it up.

Also, yeah its currently the anime I'm most hooked on, can't wait for the next ep to come out.

The new episode is out.

Day Z has a new update (1.7.2.5) that is supposed to fix most graphical tearing.

BattlEye has supposedly fix something to do with wrongfully banning players.

The Standalone game is coming Fall or Winter, if I'm not mistaken. And Bohemia Interactive (the ones who made ARMA 2) are working on it with Rocket as the project Lead. So yay :D.

Yeah, hopefully every think works out, though I'm still a little on the edge, even if they got rid of hackers and fixed the graphics tearing, there is still nothing to do for those that don't want to play as a bandit.

most of my members have had every weapon, every tool, every thing and drove every care truck and boat, so we've kind of ran out of things to do heh, apart from resorting to bandit behavior, which is something I'll give the boot for if I find a member playing as a bandit heh.

Well, you could try and do crazy stuff. Not just be bandits, but do the opposite and help out new players. Be bandit hunters (effectively, the bandit's bandit). Find vehicles and start all out wars over them, such as, announcing that there's a fully repaired bus in Elektro on a server with Side Chat. I saw one guy do that with a bike, except he rode through Elektro ringing the bell getting a zombie train well over 100 walkers long. Immediately after he left the city, everyone in it had met each other trying to follow the sound of a bell and a massive firefight insued.

Remember, the fun part about Day Z is the story about how you died.

I met Hitler once (he had a hacked skin and his gloves had swastika's on them) and I happened to have a black skin. ... Then we got on this bus on our server called the party bus that does nothing but rides around picking up survivors and transporting them places. Then the hitler hacker went invisible and started setting Satchel charges everywhere and everybody on the bus freaked the hell out.

That was entertaining even if I died. And that's what I play the game still for :).

I want to try day z. but from the looks of it. it needs more polish and is full of hackers. I'll wait for the finish product and see if it's still worth getting

Yeah, there are plenty of hackers going around as of late but that number is shrinking faster and faster as the days go by, the latest updates have reduced the number of hackers hitting our server by a lot, hackers are no longer the issue really, as of right now, items in tents are not saving and the one that do save, the items stay in there, even after you take them, they reappear after the server does a daily restart, so there is endless supply of just about anything you want so its taken a good deal of the fun out of the game but the game is still very much worth playing.

As for the full release for the game, it should happen some time these year.

Some advice about hackers: Play on The Asylum if possible. It's a server with a private hive that requires you to join their website, thus deterring hackers.

No actually but it sound like it might be the hack some hackers do to random servers, where every one is teleported to a closed off bunker or base of some sort and in every corner there is a large number of crates with weapons, players run to them, grab what ever guns and kill ever one else that was teleported in.

if so, I'm hopping it'll be patched soon, though its been around for weeks now =/

I gotta say this, The DayZ dev's better get their act together, cause a company has popped out of the woodwork and is building a game that might take most if not all the traffic from DayZ, its called WarZ, sounds like it'll be sold for at the same price as the full version of DayZ but it already has some gameplay video released and I have to say, I'm becoming more and more interested, heres a link to the video,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UwpLOVTjLU

I'm still with those that say WarZ is a cash grab, copying DayZ but I guess, it happens all the time and I'm caring less and less, I will be getting WarZ and have already signed up for the beta, which you can too at,

http://thewarz.com/

the game looks like a more main stream version of what DayZ will be, what I'm worried about is the game engine is supposedly a modded version of the ones used in the companies free to play game War Inc, which I found horrible, ranking up in one of the worst I've had the misfortune to play but from the gameplay video above, the game looks like its going to have a real shot at stealing the thunder from DayZ, the same guy that made the gameplay video or uploaded anyways, also made a bit more of a informative video which you can find here,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hu7I0IJZUyI

I'm still rooting for DayZ but WarZ, is starting to look like a lot of fun, we'll just have to see how things go.
