I, like a lot of others really don't like these new forums. I just popped in to see what's up and put my 2-cents in here & there. But I really don't like using these forums. They are really clunky and inflexible.

I've been spending all my time the last few years hanging out in a gaming forum and working with a gaming server virtual opensource dev team writing server emulators for Aion. Nothing illegal. We do NOT use the vendor's server code. Our servers are copyrighted by GPL, written from scratch by us, work with the unmodified Aion client (free from NCSoft) & work better than the commercial server. Fun stuff for sure.

I don't really like the new forums either. Like we have all said or heard before, we should have stuck with VBulletin. There was no reason to switch. Don't fix what aint broke...look where it gets ya.

Additional (And i posted a comment of the first one on the 'contact' page):

(1) -- and may explain a lack of new memberships...

I created 2 additional accounts here. Neither account is usable as I have yet to receive an email with passwords for them. Both account names are unique as well as having unique email addresses. Spam blocking is not enabled on the email address I provided (though I can delete these in a flash if they end up becoming spam collectors).

(2)
No access to account settings from forums or main page.

This one is a pain. I have to log off, then log back on to get an option to go to my settings. Very unfriendly way to handle this.

(3)
Message editor while simple, is very unfriendly.

I like to embellish my posts with emphasis or even pictures. To do this I have to find out what BBCodes or html are supported and had code them in. Yuck.

(4)
Random captcha.

WTF?? That is a pure annoyance especially if I am a member (and have been off & on for almost 10 years - my ManicMouse account has been around since 2007 - others a solid 5 years before that). Guys, my freaking vision sucks hard and these captcha images are almost impossible to decipher for me half the time. When I go to post and see one of them, I change my mind and don't post at all. I can understand them to keep the anonymous posters in check, but for members? Especially long term members? C'mon!

It's improving, but slowly.

I know why the software change. It was site oriented. Now the Forum looks like the rest of the site (or vice versa). But I would have built it around phpBB (very similar to VBulletin, but open code and very easy to modify structures and look) and called it good. But, then again, I'm not working for Rodney (though I did ask!).

I feel bad that I did break away for a while, thanks to a terrible financial state where internet access was just not a possibility, and when I came back, I saw evidence of old timers who had since vanished. Every time an old timer (Manic Mouse included!) pops in, I get goosebumps!

I'll tolerate the bad software, I guess. I have a connection here, and I have a strange feeling that if I stick around, maybe I can get others to come back, too, and turn this into what it was before.
