Monday is Memorial Day in the United States.  Please remember your veterans than have given the supreme sacrifice no matter where you live.

It is the VETERAN, not the preacher,
who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the VETERAN, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the VETERAN, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the VETERAN, not the politician,
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the VETERAN,
who salutes the Flag,

It is the VETERAN,
who serves under the Flag,

ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM O LORD,
AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM.

I don't know if any of you saw this in the news but it really impressed me. In September 2006, our US Senate/House took 2 days off as they couldn't work because of Hurricane Isabelle.

Because of the dangers from Hurricane Isabelle approaching Washington DC, the military members assigned the duty of guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier were given permission to suspend the assignment.

They refused. "No way, Sir!"

Soaked to the skin, marching in the pelting rain of a tropical storm, they said that guarding the Tomb was not just an assignment, it was the highest honor that can be afforded to a serviceperson.

The tomb has been patrolled continuously, 24/7, since 1930.

We can be very proud of our young men and women in the service no matter where they serve.

God Bless them. God Bless them all...

Let us not forget veterans of other types, not only those who served in the military, but those who fought for our civil rights as well. Without them, our rights as Americans would be greatly diminished. I paid my respects at a memorial dedicated those who fought in the Great War, as well at another memorial which honors our Civil War dead.

I don't even know why it's called a holiday. It's not like we need the day off because almost all the vets are dead or forgotten. To the 99.9999999999% of the USA it's just another day off to eat steak and drink beers at the beach. Don't worry people, we will have another war soon that makes fullmetal jacket look like a childs bedtime story.

I sleep fine at night knowing we are banning people who deserve it.  Tivon
