Hey gang,

I've been sitting on my lovely $40 (after sale + coupons, woot!) Staples chair for over the past 2 years and feel like I need an upgrade. The chair has gotten fairly old, and no longer provides good back and neck support. It's also a little too low, and in general doesn't feel comfortable.

Unfortunately, I'm limited to only Staples and a budget of <$150 (maxx). Any recommendations would be appreciated! I need the chair primarily for computer use. I'll be going down to a staples store within the next week or so to checkout the chairs in person, so it would be nice to know of what series to look out for.

In general though, any good computer chair recommendation would work also. If there's another chair out there, that's not at staples, but is worth the cost I'd look into it.

Cheers,

I'm a fan of the EZ series at OfficeMax. I don't think Staples carries them, though. They are super easy to assemble, and tough to break.

Aside from that, try the Serta label. Uber-comfy!

Sorry, I only track OfficeMax prices... happens when you work there!

I'm using the Serta Leather Manager's Chair from Staples since Christmas and I LOVE IT! It's probably way above your budget though. When I bought it, it was already marked off due to boxing sale and I still payed $250 CAD. It was worth every cent though. Comfortable for hours on end. No more shifting around while working/gaming.

Like eire said, try to go for a Serta. They work together with Staples on these chairs, so you can probably find a more affordable model that still has this memory foam. Highly recommended!

Hmm.. The Staples Dot Com says the only "Serta" product they have is a Belkin firewire cable... No other results for "Serta" hmm =/.

Is Leather really that comfortable in a computer hair? I mean, you got hot sweaty and sticky? I always went for mesh chairs and stuff like that.

There are perforated leather chairs. They are very comfortable, as your skin can breathe through it. Avoid solid leather, as you will stick to it.

Alrighty then..

So, I was at staples a few days ago and I sat down in about every single chair they had in stock on the floor. Unfortunately, the only two chairs I found that I liked were $280 and $350.. Hmmm!

Question now: Is it worth spending hundreds on a chair? How long does a really good leather manager chair last? The two chairs I liked are:

Staples? Stratton™ Black Leather Executive Chair
Staples? Tillman™ Leather Executive Chair, Black

Is it worth spending all this dough on a chair? I mean... All of my chairs I bought were between $40-60 after coupons/sales/discounts... so I've never used a fancy chair before. And if one wants to invest ~250-300 in a chair is there a better one out there than either of those two? I'd prefer to get the best quality for my buck.

Cheers,

If you are willing to spend upto $300, get a steelcase leap off ebay which goes for about that much. Most comfortable chairs and retail for $800+. I know I'm getting one in January :D

Leave Staples! They're trying to rob you! Take a trip out to the nearest OfficeMax. Grab the support package ($9.99) and it's covered for three years on leather tears, hydraulics, etc., and if it breaks down to where it can't be rebuilt, the company just sends out a box for the parts, and a gift card for the purchase price + tax.

You're brilliant!

Why didn't I think of looking on eBay? LOL! I've been dying to get something from SteelCase from a while. They make such sexy stuff o.o but it's all so expensive.

What's the difference between the v1 and v2 leap?

And, FYI: The v1 leaps on eBay are ~$400 while v2 are $600.

eire1274, hmm.. I'm not sure why but I remember owning that chair ~3 or so years back. Sadly, there is no OfficeMax near by me and I doubt my mom would want to drive ~30min out =/.

Try fixing the missing DLL with a repair from the windows disk. Wrong topic, btw.

I've gone through at least 4 computer chairs over the years granted a metal folding chair isn't really a computer chair but i used one for a while until it broke, like the others. I had back rests snap at the weld marks, metal seats bend. Just bad luck until i got a decent one from staples. I'd love to try out the aeron chairs is it called? But man are they expensive. My girl just got some tub chair for the living room.

Why doesn't anyone ever build their own chairs anymore? Doesn't take rockets science to use wood or metal and toss on a few chair covers.

I sleep fine at night knowing we are banning people who deserve it.  Tivon

For your computer office, try ergonomic desk chairs, these type of chairs promotes health - preventing muscle strains, comfort and safety.

@Jared Maynard: this type of chair takes rocket science to make.

For those wanting cheap and comfortable chairs I'd recommend checking out Ikea, if they're close to you. I got my chair there two years ago and it's still doing what it's supposed to. :)

Oh, holy crap, I need to order that!

BTW, I did have an Ikea chair once that fell apart.  I would imagine that this could have been an issue with weight, as I am over 250lb, but I am not a fan.

I've always liked building things with wood, but never seem to have the time anymore. I can put a stain and clear coat on so good you would think $$$. If I had the money I'd take a chair from my favorite car and mount it into a thrown with full surround and beer chiller.
